Introduction to NetApp MAT4Shift
9
Design Principles Make VMs universal
Rapidly move VMs between Hypervisors - No data migration, import or export - No additional storage or datacenter resources Customers benefits from choice & flexibility - Migration from vSphere to Hyper-V
10
NetApp MAT4SHIFT Overview
Near zero touch migration from ESX/i to Hyper-V including: - Network configuration collection and reconfiguration - Disk configuration collection and reconfiguration - Removal of Source Hypervisor integration tools - Creation and configuration of new VM in Hyper-V
11
NetApp MAT4SHIFT Overview
Wicked fast migrations of VMs with VMDKs - Hosted via NFS on NetApp Controller Short VM downtime - Regardless of VMDK or VHD/X sizes - No synchronization required MAT4SHIFT provides Automation wrapper No Per-VM Migration Cost

Migration Scenario FlexClone-powered, no data copy or import
6/5/2018 Migration Scenario Data ONTAP, FlexClone & WAFL Process involves cloning the data blobs from one format to another, writing any unique differences as needed. For VMware to Hyper-V, we clone from the flat VMDK into the new VHD/VHDX, writing any headers and metadata as needed. Take a VMDK on an NFS data store and shift it to a VHD/VHDX in seconds. Supports conversion of Windows Server & Linux, and latest versions of Hyper-V & vSphere. Only writing the difference in the file format not the contents of the virtual disk itself. Requires a NetApp storage device that is running Data ONTAP 8.2 or later, running in Cluster mode FlexClone-powered, no data copy or import More info: © 2012 Microsoft Corporation.
