While vaccines have greatly reduced the incidence of many serious infectious diseases, immunization rates for some diseases are not meeting national public health goals. And not everyone realizes that vaccination aren’t just for children – they are needed to stay safe and healthy throughout your lifetime. Every dose of vaccine is important because they are all needed to protect against infectious diseases that can be life-threatening for infants and very young children. Pregnancy is a great time to plan for your child’s vaccinations – and to make sure you have all the vaccines you need to convey protection to your baby during her first few months of life. - OR - Banner for Back to School Back to School: Children and Teens New clothes and notebooks are not the only things children and teens need to get ready for the new school year. To stay healthy, school-age kids also need to be up to date on their vaccines, both to protect themselves and to help keep illness from spreading to siblings, friends and the grown-ups around them. The more people in a community are fully immunized, the less likely a disease – like whooping cough – can take hold and cause widespread outbreaks. The Communication Toolkit: Vaccinate for Life! Over time, immunity from childhood diseases may wear off and you may be at risk for new and different diseases. Getting ready for college means making sure you are up to date on all doses of all recommended vaccines – both to protect yourself and to do your part to keep illness from spreading in your community. Or - Banner for Not Just for Kids Not Just for Kids: Adults Many adults aren’t convinced they still need protection against vaccine-preventable diseases. But vaccines are not just for kids. Even healthy adults can get seriously ill, and can pass illness on to others. Immunizations are especially important for older adults, and for those with certain chronic conditions such as asthma, COPD, diabetes or heart disease. Some of the vaccines that adults need change as they grow older, and depend on one’s age, occupation, travel, risk factors and health status. But everyone age 6 and older should get a flu shot every year. Tag line TBD The Communication Toolkit: Vaccinate for Life!
