3. Expectations
Be responsible for the decisions you make. Only you can control your actions. Take pride in your work.
Respect yourself, others and the school. Contribute positively to classroom discussions.
Keep an open mind about the cultural and social experiences that may take place in class. Speak Spanish as often as possible.

4. Class Description & Objectives:
To be comfortable using the language through the four linguistic skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. There will be a midterm and a final exam, which will cover the material of the entire year.

5. Teacher job vs. Student job
Provide a safe, secure, capable and fun learning environment.
Encourage respect for all members of the school and all cultures.
Assist you in developing life skills.
Teach Spanish in the following areas: listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Show up to class on time. If absent, find out about missed work.
Come to class prepared with book, pen/pencil, binder or folder, homework.
Speak Spanish whenever possible and seek help from teacher when struggling.
Respect the property and thoughts of others.

6. Rules are necessary
Do NOT do things that will prevent me from teaching and you or others from learning.
No cell phone use unless authorized by the teacher. Keep phones and ear buds OUT OF SIGHT!!! Automatic Administrative write-up.
If you must be late to class, have a late pass from your previous teacher or an Administrator. See Student Code of Conduct p. 51 for consequences of any/all infractions.
Remain in the classroom during the class period. Only students who have a class in the building (Hall: A, B, C, D, E, F ONLY) will be dismissed at the 2 minute bell. DO NOT LINE UP AT THE DOOR!!!
IDA= inappropriate display of affection. Don’t do it!!!!
Dress code: NO busts, bellies, backs, boxers, bottoms!!!!!
Clean up after yourself. Only water bottles allowed.

7. Classroom Procedures Fire drill: meet at the flagpole
Read the board as you enter the classroom. Look for HW and “Haz ahora” = “Do now”. Write assignments down.
Request to use the bathroom during “down” time, not during a lesson.
Acquire 60 participation points per marking period by raising your hand to volunteer answers orally or on the board. This is 30% of your total grade.
After the 2 minute bell, remain in your seats until the teacher dismisses the class with an “Adios”. Do NOT line up at the door.

9. Why learn a second language?
The longer you remain in your target language course, the more vocabulary you will build up to actually be able to speak. Our goal is for you to be able to use your language and gain the Seal of Biliteracy on your transcripts by Senior year.
The higher the level, the more that you can do: debate, read interesting literature, converse with native language speakers.

10. In Honors 3 & 4, you have the ability to earn college credit.
You become more globally connected and career competitive.

11. Many Tier 2 colleges require three years of a language
Many Tier 2 colleges require three years of a language. Check the college requirements of those colleges you are interested in – what are the expectations?
Research shows that learning a language and becoming more proficient helps you score higher in English and in other subject areas as well.
