SWBAT factor quadratic trinomials when the leading coefficient is not 1

2. Factoring with a lead coefficient
ax2 + bx + c
7x2 + 22x + 3
First multiply the first coefficient and the constant (ac)
7(3) = 21
Find the factors of 21 that add up to the second coefficient (b)
1*21
3*7

3. Factoring with a lead coefficient
Re-write the polynomial using the factors
7x2 + 22x + 3
7x2 + 21x + 1x + 3
Factor by grouping
7x(x + 3) + 1(x + 3)
(7x +1)(x +3)

4. Factoring with a lead coefficient
Use the same rules for the signs that you used when factoring a trinomial with a leading coefficient of 1
