2. Biography Born in Plainfield, New Jersey on June 16, 1917
He died October 7, 2009 in New York City
Education: Philadelphia Museum School of Art from , learned advertising design
First job after graduating, he was an art director for the Junior League magazine
Irving spent a year in Mexico for painting
Became a graphic designer in New York, before shooting pictures for Vogue
Penn was selected by Brodovitch to be his assistant for a year in the art department of Harper’s

On October 1, vogue published his first cover
During his time working with Vogue, he got to travel around the world (France, Spain, Italy, England, Austria, Scotland, etc.)
He married Lisa Fonssagrives (fashion model) in 1950
