1 Welcome! Please take out a chromebook and open the documents about the Cold War that are posted in Mr. Percy’s exam prep website. Please also have Mr. Cowhitt’s packet out for review.

2 Cold War Review Remember the four regions.
Divided into key themes covering the period 1945 – Key questions: Origins: How did it start? Why did it start? Global Spread (1945-’64): How did if move beyond Europe? What were the impacts on other countries? Reconciliation & Renewed Conflict: (1963-’79): To what extent was there a thaw? Why was there renewed conflict? Conclusion: Why did it end when it did? How did it end?

3 Overview Has been described as a chess game, a fight for the end of the world Important to note that despite the overarching conflict, there were periods of peace Main theories explaining the CW: Russian Menace (Orthodox), US Imperialism (Revisionist), Post- revisionist = both sides responsible (class conflict, ideology, power, arms race, developed & developing worlds)

9 Essay Questions to Discuss
Assess the importance of two leaders from different regions in the development of the CW. Evaluate the impact of the CW on two nations other than the U.S. and the USSR. “The Cuban Missile Crisis’ potential to become nuclear has been exaggerated.” TWE do you agree with this statement? Compare & contrast the roles of Reagan & Gorbachev in end of the Cold War.
