Review for Quiz on 10-13-17 Friday 7th Grade

1. Draw a typical plant cell and animal cell side by side and label each of these parts, cell wall, cell membrane, nucleus, cytoplasm, chloroplast, mitochondria. Some of the parts will only be one cell. Be sure to label all parts that are appropriate to each cell.

1. Go to the following website to check your answers
1. Go to the following website to check your answers. Click on the interactive “cell models”. There is one for plants and one for animals.

2. What parts are on the plant cell that are not on your animal cell?

2. Plant cells have cell walls and chloroplasts and animal cells have neither. Vacuoles are larger in plant cells.

3. Name the function of each of the following: - cell wall - cell membrane - nucleus - chloroplast -cytoplasm -vacuole -mitochondria

3. Name the function of each of the following: - cell wall -support - cell membrane- allows things in and out - nucleus- control using DNA - chloroplast- chlorophyll, photosynthesis -cytoplasm- filler, the “jelly -mitochondria-energy”

-vacuoles are used for storage of water, food, and wastes

4. In an animal cell, name the organelle that contains the DNA.

4. It would not matter if it was an animal or a plant cell, the DNA is in the nucleus.

5. In a plant cell where are the chromosomes found?

5. Chromosomes are made of DNA and are found in the nucleus.

6. Draw an animal cell with a nucleus and put 4 chromosomes in the nucleus.

7. Now draw an arrow and draw a cell and show what the nucleus would like from #6 if asexual reproduction takes place.

7. The new cell would have exactly the same number of chromosomes, 4, in the nucleus.

8. Start a drawing with a cell that has 4 chromosomes in the nucleus
8. Start a drawing with a cell that has 4 chromosomes in the nucleus. In sexual reproduction, that cell splits into 4 cells. Draw an arrow and show how many chromosomes will be in the daughter cells that are reproduced sexually from the original parent cell.. Start a drawing with a cell that has 4 chromosomes in the nucleus. Draw an arrow and show how many chromosomes will be in a cell that is reproduced sexually from the original parent cell.

9. Explain why sexual reproduction can produce more variety than asexual.

9. Sexual reproduction has 2 parents that combine DNA to make many variations. Asexual reproduction has cells that have exactly the same DNA as the original parent.

10. Draw a yeast cell with a bud and label if this is sexual or asexual reproduction.

In budding a new cell is reproduce off the edge of the original cell
and it has exactly the same chromosomes. This is asexual.

11. Describe or explain what plant succession means and where did we see this?

11. Plant succession is when one community of plants gives way to a new community. An example is when a grass community will become weeds and bushes. Think of the notes or drawing you made by the bus at the end.

12. What do the terms photosynthesis, chloroplast, and producer have to do with each other?

12. A plant is a producer because it makes its own food
12. A plant is a producer because it makes its own food. The photosynthesis occurs in the chloroplast. Photosynthesis is what makes a plant a producer.

13. You should be able to write out the basic steps for reproductive cloning.

13. Go to this site, look at how cloning is done and write yourself some notes. You should have something about an egg cell, a donor cell, how to start the growth and where does the fertilized egg go to mature. Mimi the mouse and cloning

14. Take a look at your notes on the cloning poster
14. Take a look at your notes on the cloning poster. Here is the exact question from the test.

13. (8) Cloning will become a very important political, economic and social issue in your lifetime. Take a position that states if you will support cloning of all types or not or you can explain what types of cloning you might support. After you state your position you should then support your position with 3 specific reasons. It is not enough to just state the reason, you then need to back or explain the reason.

14. You should be able to answer the question in a well written paragraph.

The end, good luck on your quiz
The end, good luck on your quiz. From the management in room 74 Geneseo Middle School.
