E-Safety Seghill First School 10th May 2013

2 Why be E-Safe? 91% of all 5-15 year olds used the internet in 2012
There are many dangers on the internet these include: Strangers, computer viruses, inappropriate content and adverts Only 46% had parental controls set on the computer their child used 35% of the children used mostly used the internet on their own.

3 Issues surrounding: Gaming (dangers of online gaming, but also age appropriate gaming) Posting personal information and status updates on social networking sites. The importance of passwords

Appropriate use of web cams Mobile phones -Bluetooth -Cameras

5 Why and how do children use the internet at school?

6 Research Consolidation of skills – Online games to practise maths, spelling etc. Progression of ICT skills –

7 How does my child stay ‘safe’ while using the internet at school?

8 Not use the internet? Computers fitted with stringent blocking & filtering devices. All children have own passwords. ICT suite arranged so that screens are visible to teachers at all times.

9 Children are given information on e-safety- report what makes them uncomfortable…
NORTLE central Northumberland County Council have access to all computers and all activities are ‘fed through’ this system…

12 What are the risks? Unwanted contact and possible grooming
Cyberbullying Harmful content and illegal materials Privacy and digital footprints

13 Be aware Predators will contact children in child friendly sites (eg Moshi Monsters, Club Penguin) and quickly try to move them to chat 1:1 on sites with less security Sexting Blue tooth

14 What can you do to minimise the risks?
Aged 13+ years to have a Facebook account PEGI rating system for games (violence, fear, discrimination, sex, drugs, bad language) Monitor and challenge your child’s use of the internet
