Reading Expectations In Year 4, children are expected to read at home and are encouraged to note this in their reading logs. We ask that the children read at least 3 times a week. When listening to your children read, ask questions to ensure they are understanding the text. You can use the reading card in the back of reading logs to help with questions.

Homework Spellings will be sent home every Friday and will be tested the following Friday. Please practice times tables with your child as an on going activity throughout the week. The children are expected to know all their times tables by the end of Year 4. Maths and English homework will be given out each week. Homework club will be on each Friday Lunch time.

X Tables By the end of year 4, the children are expected to know their x tables up to 12. Practise each day. X table Rock Star which can be accessed from home.

GPS Daily spelling lesson teaching rules and patterns through no nonsense scheme- model, practise, apply There are also common exception words that must be learned throughout the year. Grammar taught daily. Children must know the terminology as well as how to apply it correctly in all writing tasks. SPaG is tested in each year group and Y6 sit a national sat test.

Tools to protect your children – Parental Control
Every parental control package is different, but most provide services such as: Filtering – content to restrict access to particular sites Time limits – restrict the amount of time your child can be online, or set periods of time where your child can access certain sites Monitoring – where you are informed of certain sites that your child is attempting to gain access to.

Reporting – where you are provided with information about what sites your child has used.

Let them teach you The people who know best about what your children are up to online, are your children! Get them to tell you about the sites they’re using. Ask them questions such as: ◦Why do they like the site? ◦What can they do on it? ◦What’s so fun about it? ◦Who uses it at school? ◦Who you can talk to? ◦Who are their friends on it? This is a good way to develop a trusting relationship with your child about what they are up to online.
