Inequalities Learning Goal
Students will be able to extend their knowledge of equations to include solving and graphing inequalities on a number line. Students will be able to solve real world problems involving equations and inequalities.
4
Today, my learning target is to…
Solve word problems leading to one- and two-step inequalities. Graph the solutions to one- and two-step inequalities and interpret the solution set in the context of the problem.
5
How much prior knowledge do you have regarding that goal?
MY PROGRESS CHART Before we start the Learning Target Lesson, think about the Learning Target for today…. How much prior knowledge do you have regarding that goal? Chart your prior knowledge using your pre-target score icon.
6
Common Core Investigation 3.1
This investigation focuses on the representing situations and solving problems using inequalities. A connection between solving equations and solving inequalities focuses on similar procedures.
7
Before Starting Investigation 3.1
Review the inequality symbols and make sure you have an understanding of inequalities.

Getting Ready for the Investigation

Problem 3.1- Part A
11
During 3.1, Part A- Why are you asked to write an inequality rather than an equation? The problem states that Caitlyn wants a television with “at least” a 26-in. screen. So, Caitlyn will need to spend an amount equal or greater than the cost of the 26-in. television, $330.
13
During 3.1, Part B- What do “open” and “closed” circles in the graph of an inequality refer to? Open refers to “less than” the number circled. Closed refers to “less than or equal to” the number circled. What does “at least” tell you about the graph? There should be a closed circle at 330 since $330 is included and the arrow should point to the right.
15
Today, I achieved my learning target by…
Solving word problems leading to one- and two-step inequalities. Graphing the solutions to one- and two-step inequalities and interpret the solution set in the context of the problem.

Chart your current knowledge using your Post-target score icon.
MY PROGRESS CHART After the completion of the Learning Target, think about the Learning Target for today…. How much has your understanding of the Learning Target changed? Did your understand increase or decrease? Chart your current knowledge using your Post-target score icon.
