(Leucaena leucocephala )
New Proposal S2, 2016 Background (1) White leadtree (Leucaena leucocephala ) White leadtree is a highly invasive in the arid parts of northern Australia, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, the Hawaiian Islands , Indonesia, Malaysia, The Philippines, Thailand, South America and Europe. White leadtree is considered one of the 100 worst invasive species by the Invasive Species Specialist Group of the IUCN Species Survival Commission. Photo: Internet

Small and medium enterprises in the APEC region
New Proposal S2, 2016 Background (3) Small and medium enterprises in the APEC region Most enterprises especially in the APEC's developing economics are small and medium enterprises. These enterprises rely on firing fossil fuel with boilers to obtain heating required for the manufacturing process. It is difficult for these enterprises to use modern green energy, especially the wind power and solar PV, due to the limited space available or located in the proximity of the city.
7
New Proposal S2, 2016 Objectives Assess and demonstrate the utilization of white- leadtree pellet fired in existing packaged boilers of small and medium enterprises for green energy applications. Conduct an economic feasibility study of utilizing white- leadtree pellets instead of fossil fuel for boiler application, providing information of economic benefits to the small and medium enterprises. Host a workshop on discussion of applications of bio- pellets in many aspects including the technological and economic assessment, market penetration, and trade opportunities.

Methodology 1 2 3 4 5 New Proposal S2, 2016 Dec 2016- Feb 2017
Review recent advances in bio-pellets technologies 2 Mar-May 2017 Evaluate and demonstrate the utilization of white-leadtree pellet fired in existing boilers of small and medium enterprises for green energy applications 3 Jun-Aug 2017 Carry out an economic feasibility study of utilizing white-leadtree pellet instead of fossil fuel for boiler application 4 Sep-Nov 2017 Conduct a workshop to gather experts for discussion and collect the information 5 Dec 2017 Complete the final report and deliver to EGNRET representatives. The outcome will be presented at upcoming EGNRET meeting for follow-up action.
9
New Proposal S2, 2016 Expected Output A report and a workshop to deliver the outcome so APEC’s policy makers. The developing economics can benefit from this project by promoting green energy utilization in the APEC region.

Co-sponsoring Economies
New Proposal S2, 2016 Concept Note: PART II Project Title Filling the Gap to Reach the Goal of Doubling Renewable Energy in the APEC Region Proposing Economy Chinese Taipei Co-sponsoring Economies The Philippines, Thailand, USA Total Cost APEC funding: USD 80,000 Self-funding: USD 50,000
11
New Proposal S2, 2016 Background In 2014, APEC Leaders agreed to double the share of renewable energy in the overall energy mix by 2030 to achieve sustainable and resilient energy development within the APEC region. Energy Ministers aspired to the goal of “doubling the share of renewables in the APEC energy mix, including in power generation, from 2010 levels by 2030. Energy Ministers instructed the EWG through the EGNRET to develop the road map for the aspirational goal of doubling the share of renewables in the APEC energy mix, including in power generation by 2030.
12
New Proposal S2, 2016 Project Objectives Investigating the potential of renewable energy development in the APEC economies. Analyzing the gap to reach the goal of doubling renewable energy and evaluating how much capacities and renewable energy development potentials could fill this gap. Developing a strategic roadmap toward doubling renewable energy goal.
13
Methodology New Proposal S2, 2016
Jan 2017 Forming the Research Team Feb 2017 Data Collection Collecting the current renewable energy status in the APEC region and investigate all member economies’ renewable energy development targets and potentials. Apr 2017 Gap Criterion and Potential Evaluation Analyzing the gap to reach the goal and evaluating how much capacities and renewable energy development potentials could fill this gap. May 2017 Interviews and Workshops Conducted to collect the complete renewable energy data, policies, etc., and to verify the accuracy of the information. (con’t)
14
Methodology (con’t) New Proposal S2, 2016
Jun 2017 Conducting Research and Developing Strategic Roadmap Conducting research to develop a strategic roadmap including a cooperative network toward the goal of doubling renewable energy in the APEC region. Dec 2017 Completing the Final Report Providing research outcomes, policy recommendations, and renewable energy development roadmap toward the doubling renewable energy goal in the APEC region.
15
Expected Output New Proposal S2, 2016
Obtaining a systematic information understands how to fill the gap to reach the goal of doubling renewable energy. Developing a strategic roadmap toward the goal of doubling renewable energy. Establishing a cooperative network among APEC develops and promotes renewable energy. Providing research outcomes and policy recommendations toward the doubling renewable energy goal in the APEC region will be a reference for APEC economies to follow in revising nations’ goals to reach the doubling of renewable energy application.
