Out of the box data visualisation
You have LOADS of options of data visualisation with standard Microsoft Dynamics CRM It is all FREE (at no extra cost for the product) within the application The skills required range from basic to advanced (common sense is a lot of this! Taking a step back, using advanced find!)
8
OUT OF THE BOX DATA VISUALISATION
In CRM 2016: Views Charts Dashboards Reports (OOTB) Hierarchies Word Templates Interactive Service Hub HTML/JavaScript
9
OUT OF THE BOX DATA VISUALISATION
Where are these things? Views, Charts, Dashboards, Reports, Heirarchies, Word Templates – all within the CRM Application HTML/JS - Custom Code Customisation/setup is required for the majority of these except where they come as part of the core application e.g. Leads, Accounts etc.
10
OUT OF THE BOX DATA VISUALISATION – WHAT MAKES IT SO AWESOME?
They are available as standard Range of Skills to get good, decent data visualisation (little technical ability required, functional ability is the focus) Output is amazing and can be really powerful Theres more...!
11
OUT OF THE BOX DATA VISUALISATION – WHAT MAKES IT SO AWESOME?
Pictorial – Charts, Reports, Hierarchal Structures, ISH Distributable – Reports (On Premise), Views, Dashboards (Share) Informational – Views, Hierarchal Structures, ISH,, Reports Process Driven – Dashboards, ISH
12
Negatives? Forgetting how awesome these things are
Chart XML can get annoying Limitations of Dashboards OOTB Reports are limiting Interactive Service Hub only for specific OOTB Entities
13
In comparison? Excel: Inside of CRM, Not the same reach or functionality as formula's, not as much flexibility Power BI: Charts can be modified to mimic but not as slick or easy to use SSRS: Offer much more flexibility than OOTB Reporting

Excel as a central tool for reporting
3rd Party Data Flat data Excel CRM Data User skills
17
Why use Excel for CRM Data Analysis?
Bring datasets together From multiple entities, multiple data sources, historical (static) data User familiarity, existing skillsets, existing software “Self-service” analysis is easy with simple formulas Calculating date differences, averages, totals and subtotals Pivot Tables, Pivot Charts and Slicers Ready-built reports with flexibility for user to filter, pivot and drill down
18
CRM 2016 – Excel Templates! Save templates to CRM for users to download No more issues around distributing latest versions of report “templates” Users open template “inline” with CRM Online +O365, or download as a local file, with latest data every time Template is a normal Excel file User can use slicers and filters, or add more complex analysis if they wish If user does not make changes, they just discard Download again next time to get latest version and current data
19
Excel Strengths Comparison
Alternatives Bring data sources together User skillsets Software you already have Easy self-service analysis Possible with SSRS, Power BI No comparison! SSRS is part of SQL Server, OOB charts part of CRM Power BI to some extent; SSRS can provide some pivot / drill down
