Measuring Success Developing a Scorecard July 2013

2 What is a scorecard? Measures performance against goals.
Displays graphic indicators that visually convey progress and celebrate success of your council. These indicators provide a snapshot of council performance.

3 How is a council scorecard different from Intermountain’s Dashboards?
A dashboard is made up of several scorecards or measures. Intermountain uses dashboards to follow all of their initiatives at a high level. A council scorecard measures success of specific council goals that may include Structure Processes Outcomes

4 Why a council scorecard?
Enables the council to bridge the gap between strategy and actions Helps councils avoid ‘talking’ about problems but not accomplishing anything Visual reminder for all council members to stay focused on council goals

5 Where to start?...Be SMART What are the specific council goals?
Are they SMART goals? Specific Measurable Action Oriented Realistic Time sensitive If the council goals are not SMART goals, re-write them in the SMART format.

6 Ideas for Structure Goals (used to measure basic council function)
Number of meetings Attendance Presence of specific disciplines Minutes Agendas Time keeping

Ground rules – do you have them and are they being followed? Problem/resolution in a timely manner Tracking issues so they don’t get dropped from the agenda Are all council members taking assignments? Are council members completing assignments?
