2. “Out of concern for the continued growth of new general studies courses and the Higher Learning Commission’s stated concerns about that, we are tabling reviews and approvals of new general studies courses until we conclude university-wide discussions about how to manage our general studies offerings in a way that supports departments and the university.” 

4. Why slow/stop the growth?
HLC has on numerous occasions in monitoring reports called us on our “unchecked” growth.
We have more courses now in General Studies then we did in 2011 before starting our new program.

5. Proposal and Things to Consider
FS Curriculum and FS General Studies will look at the issue and make a recommendation by May 31st regarding a strategic plan and General Studies courses.

Create rationale explaining why our numerous offerings are in the best interest of our students and our institution.
Chart current listings to see which courses are offered every semester and which courses are offered sporadically.
First round of general studies assessment shows great displeasure with current SLOs and a need to reduce and simplify. Is it time to change our program?
