Current Forward TC Scenario – ABCBA
Description This scenario depicts the current forward transfer of files (possibly containing packets or direct TC frames) to a single Agency A Lander using the support of a Ground Complex C and an Orbiter and Orbiter GDS provided by Agency B. Neither Agency A, Agency B, nor the Ground Complex C implements DTN. End to end services (n.b. Forward only, return is different) Mono-directional transfer of packets (within a file) between the Lander control centre and its Lander (protocols & process differs from agency to agency) Mono-directional return of data from Lander to its control center (return direction protocols are different from forward, and differ from agency to agency) Transfers require specialized manipulation of data by the Orbiter GDS and by the Orbiter Process is almost entirely manual, including planning, file upload assembly, and any retransmission processing which must be explicitly commanded Ground cross support services (n.b. Forward only, return is different) Mono-directional transfer of files between Lander Control Centre and Orbiter Control Centre (using FTP) Mono-directional transfer of files between Orbiter Control Centre and Earth-Space Link Terminal, after integration of Lander file into Orbiter file upload (using SLE CLTU) Mono-directional Space Packet transfer (within file, via orbiter, with special handling) Private Orbiter Control Center to Orbiter file transfer protocol (mission and agency unique) Ground-Space CCSDS services (n.b. Forward only, return is different) Mono-directional TC frame transfer using SLE-CLTU Space-Space CCSDS services (n.b. Forward only, return is different) Mono-directional Prox-1 bitstream transfer (UDD SAP of Prox-1) Mono-directional Space Packet transfer (after aligning data and extracting Packets from UDD SAP bitstream delivered by Prox-1) Agency specific functions (n.b. Forward only, return is different) Agency B Ground Control Center must handle the packing/unpacking of files (to convert between the ground file transfer from Agency A and its file upload formats, and Handling of files according to its private uplink file transfer protocol, and the creation of the filename to provide metadata / file delivery instructions. Agency B Orbiter must handle private “file forwarding” and data staging services the packing/unpacking of files (to convert between the Orbiter private file transfer protocol and Orbiter file store), and Interpretation of filename as metadata / file delivery instructions, and proxy processing and transmission of data types (direct TM/TC, files, Encapsulation packets) delivery of the file contents as a bitstream across the Proximity-1 UDD SAP.
