1 Classroom Expectations/Procedures
7th/8th Grade English/Language Arts Mrs. Leonard

2 Student Behaviors Be prompt Be prepared
Be ready to learn when class begins. Be prepared Have materials with you and know due dates. Be a polite and positive participant Speak in a normal tone of voice, and listen attentively. Be productive Turn in work on time, and always do your best. Be a problem solver Correct problems quickly and peacefully before they escalate.

3 Show Respect Value yourself. Be honest and ethical, and practice strong moral values. Treat all members of the school community and all visitors with politeness and respect. Honor the ideas and opinions of others. Offer to help. Be responsible with property and belongings.

4 Responsibility for Coursework
Bring notebook, textbooks, folder, and appropriate writing tools to class EVERYDAY. Know due dates, and submit all coursework on time. All assignments are posted on the board and should be written in assignment notebook. Assignments and other important information will also be sent via the Remind app.

5 Classroom Procedures How should I enter the classroom?
Enter the classroom quietly and quickly, find your seat and get organized. Once seated, immediately start working on the “Do Nows” that will be presented on the projector or as a worksheet. There will ALWAYS be work for you to begin when entering my classroom. Be responsible and prepared to work ASAP!!!!!!

6 THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
1. Stop what you are doing 2. No talking, unless reciting the Pledge 3. You need to stand 4. You have the right to refuse to say the Pledge Allegiance, but you do not have the right to disrespect those who are saying the Pledge.

7 Classroom Procedures How should I hand in homework/class work?
Have the assignment out on your desk when I ask for it. I will walk around the room to collect and put it in the class period bin. If you finish a class assignment before others, please raise your hand and ask for permission to put your work in the class period bin.

8 Classroom Procedures How does Mrs. Leonard get the class’s attention?
Mrs. Leonard will raise her hand and start counting down 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Students should raise his/her hand once he/she sees Mrs. Leonard’s hand raised and hear her counting. If necessary, she will also start clapping. When students hear her clapping, they need to repeat the clapping.

9 Classroom Procedures What should I do if I’m absent?
Look for your missing work on the wall files based on your grade (7th & 8th). However, most times I’ll have the work at my desk for you once you return. If you have questions about the work, please speak to me before or after class. You have one day to turn in the work for full credit for every day absent. It is YOUR responsibility to find out what you missed, NOT MINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

10 Classroom Procedures What should I do when I finish early? Read
Work on other assignments pertaining to Language Arts Ask to use a classroom computer to work on Study Island.

11 When is it OK to talk? Talking is encouraged during partner and group activities. However, yelling and loud conversations are not. Classroom discussions with permission. Quietly asking a neighbor for help on an assignment. When I’m addressing the class, it is very important that you are listening and vice versa. It is time to quiet down, when Mrs. Leonard raises her hand and counts to five. This is your cue to stop talking and listen within 5 seconds.

12 Raising your hand How should you indicate that you have to use the restroom, or get out of your seat to throw something away of sharpen your pencil? Do not interrupt me or the class while I am speaking. Quietly raise your hand and I will give you permission when it is appropriate. Never sharpen your pencil when I or someone else is speaking. Students fill out hallway passes and I sign. Do not abuse your privilege to use the bathroom. Put your hand over your nose if you need tissue.

13 In need of tissue Raise your hand. Once I acknowledge you, please cover your nose with your hands. You shouldn’t have to speak. By covering your nose, you’re telling me that you need to get up and get a tissue. I will nod yes and you may then get up and get tissue. Please do this with out interrupting the class.

14 Classroom Procedures How should I exit the classroom?
The clock does NOT dismiss you, I do. I will dismiss once I am done with my lesson. Please pick up all waste off the floor prior to leaving. Gather your materials. I will call your name when I see your prepared and quiet to leave. Push in your chairs. Walk silently down the hallway in a straight line.

15 What happens if I don’t follow these simple procedures?
Refer to Mrs. Leonard’s behavior expectations and class policies sheet for appropriate consequences. All Illinois School policies and procedures will be followed during class time and in the hallways.

16 What happens if I follow these simple procedures?
You will be a successful student. Extra credit opportunities. Homework passes Free time Extra hallway pass to the bathroom Allowed to change seats. Make Mrs. Leonard very proud to be your teacher.

17 Policies Food and beverages are not allowed in the classroom. This includes GUM!!!!!! Please be in your seat and ready to begin work immediately upon entering the classroom. All of these expectations and policies remain in effect with a guest teacher. I will issue consequences upon my return, if expectations are not meant.

18 All about Mrs. Leonard? This is my 9th year teaching in District 162 and my forth year at Illinois School. I grew up in the south suburbs and graduated from Homewood-Flossmoor High School. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from University of Wisconsin-Madison. GO BADGERS!!!!!!!!!!!! I received my Masters of Arts degree from St. Xavier University. I am happily married to Mr. Leonard who teaches at Rich East High School. I have two wonderful children: Tanner who will be 11 on 9/28 and Tess who will be 67on 9/18. Tanner is in 5th grade and Tess is in 1st grade. Cubs fan!!!!!!!!!!! Love playing and watching sports. Became a better golfer this summer. Love to travel. Went to South Dakota and Colorado this summer.

19 My Pledge to Students I will trust you until you give me reason to do otherwise. I will respect you and work with you to solve problems. I will promptly correct and offer feedback on your work. I will work with you to meet learning goals. I will offer extra help and alternative assessments should you require them.
