2. What does Grants.gov do?
Simplifies the grants management process while creating a centralized, online process to Find
and Apply for over 1,000 grant programs from the 26 Federal grant making agencies.
Streamlines the process of awarding over $400 billion grants annually to state, local governments, Indian tribes, institutes of higher education, non-profits and other grant organizations.

IHS (New) Funding Opportunities
Only new funding opportunities for IHS can be found using the “FIND” search feature.
IHS prefers the use of Grants.gov for submitting all applications, but will provide a waiver for those grantees in remote area’s not able to access Grants.gov.

4. IHS Continuation Packages
Continuation Packages can be found under “Apply” only and,
Cannot be retrieved by using the Catalog of Domestic Assistance number (CFDA),
You must use the “Funding Opportunity Number” provided to you by your Grants Management Specialist in your continuation letter to access your continuation package.

All IHS
New Funding Opportunities posted in Grants.gov “Find” and,
Continuation Packages posted in Grants.gov “Apply”,
were accepted in PureEdge.

7. PureEdge or Adobe?
Past IHS Funding Opportunities were Posted in PureEdge and Adobe during the transition period.
Sometimes requiring downloads of either the PureEdge or Adobe application package.

8. IHS Has Transitioned to Adobe
June 1, 2008: PureEdge (PE) Opportunities NEW Posting Cutoff Date
September 30, 2008: PE Application Submission Cutoff Date
September 30, 2008: IHS Transitioned to Adobe for Posting Opportunities and Application Submission packages.
June 30, 2009: 2006 PE System Retired
An Adobe solution was originally chosen because it was an industry standard and forms developed by Grants.gov and by agencies as attachments would leverage the value of Adobe reader for applicants.
The Adobe system was deployed on 9/4/2007, delayed by factors including additional requirements to address the complexity of a transition and Adobe versioning issues.
Adobe versioning issues are addressed in release Grants.gov is aggressively pursuing formal participation in the Adobe Reader beta testing group so Reader versioning can be managed.
Forthcoming Builds will address the most uncomfortable usability issues, namely, search bugs, form display issues, and xml transfer issues.

9. What’s New with Grants.gov?

10. New Grants.gov functionality and system enhancements were implemented on August 9, 2008.
All enhancements were made to the Adobe System, no updates will be made to the PureEdge system.
The last day Grants.gov will accept PureEdge submissions is December 31, 2008.

11. APPLICANT ENHANCEMENTS Notification of Opportunity Modification
New and Modified “ funding opportunity notifications, using the (RSS)
“Really Simple Syndication”.
Grantees can choose the frequency in which they want to be notified of new funding opportunities or modifications to current opportunities.

12. Searching Grant Opportunities (Browse by Agency)
All non-federal agency listings will be removed from the “Browse by Agency” search screen.
This will provide a more accurate grant search when browsing opportunities by federal agencies.

13. Managing Application Submissions (E-Biz POC)
E-Business Point of Contact (E-Biz POC)
-assigns the Authorized Organization Representative (AOR) role.
The AORs are the
only individuals allowed to submit a grant application on behalf
of their organization.
NEW
E-Biz POC may manage AORs as well as,
AOR grant application submissions and,
login to Grants.gov and view all of the applications submitted.

18. Compatible Adobe Reader Version?
Adobe Reader or was recommended as the compatible version for use with Grants.gov applications;

Adobe Reader is compatible with Grants.gov
Testing for Adobe Reader version is complete and is now compatible with Grants.gov. The compatible versions of Adobe Reader are available to download for free on the Grants.gov website on the Download Software page. 19. Using versions of Adobe Reader other than
the ones compatible with the Grants.gov system, may cause your application to be:
rejected during processing by the Grants.gov system,
cause delays in your submission and/or acceptance by
IHS.

Applicants only have to register once to submit all grant applications through Grants.gov.
Thoroughly Read the Application Instructions!
Follow the instruction carefully. Cannot make corrections to an application once it has been submitted.

22. What to expect when registering for Grants .gov
All applicants must have a Data Universal Number System (DUNS) a nine digit commercial number, required to register with Central Contractor Registry). To obtain information call
visit the Grants.gov website.
Your agency will also need an Employer Identification Number (EIN, also known as a Federal Tax Identification Number, and is used to identify a business entity. You can obtain an EIN from the IRS website.
Register with Central Contractor Registry (CCR), a government-wide registry for vendors doing business with the federal government. To obtain information call
or visit the Grant.gov website.
Register with Credential Provider, E-Authentication – the federal program that ensures secure transactions and provides your username and password for Grants.Gov.
