Re-Cap of Pre-Award What is Pre-Award at GSU? Any grant/contract funding activity occurring before the funds have been awarded/approved, or any changes to an existing grant that affect the budget, scope of work, or projected budget period.

Re-Cap of Pre-award, CONT’D
Request for Approval under Institutional Prior Approval System (IPAS Form): All IPAS forms should be routed through A&S before submitting it to OSP. These forms include: Equipment Acquisition, No-Cost Extensions, Pre-Award or Advance Accounts, and Re-budgeting.

The Routing Process Minimum documents needed for routing a proposal:
1) Sponsored Programs Proposal Approval Form (signed by the Principal Investigator(s) (PI), Co-Investigator(s) (Co-I), All Key Personnel, and the Chair)

2) Abstract, Statement of Work, or a draft copy of the proposal 3) Detailed Budget – for Modular grant submissions a detailed budget is not required at the time of submission; however, a copy of the electronic grant application budget should be included 4) Budget Justification 5) A copy of the published guidelines/instructions.

Grants.gov Electronic Submissions – Adobe Replaces PureEdge
All electronic submissions are submitted using the new adobe electronic application.

New Restructured Forms
National Institutes of Health (NIH) – Announces “that new, restructured versions of the paper PHS 398 and electronic SF 424 (R&R) application packages and instructions will be available by December 2009.” Changes have been made to align the application with the Peer Review Criteria.

Note: Changes have been made to the following areas: - Research Plan - Resources - Biographical Sketch The new forms “must” be used on due dates on or after January 25, 2010!!!

Updated Fringe Benefit Rates

Effort/Course Release(s)?
Academic: One (1) course release is equal to 16.67% academic year salary and 1.5 person months. Two (2) course releases is equal to 33.33% of the academic year salary and 3 person months. One (1) course release is 1/6 of the academic year salary (9 month salary divided by 6). Summer: Summer time is based on 3 months. 1 month is 11.11% of the 9 month academic salary, 2 months is 22.22% of the 9 month academic salary, 3 months is 33.33% of the 9 month academic salary.
