2 Year 5 - Anglo Saxon History Day
Cross Country Event 2014 On Saturday 27th September, children from Year 2 to Year 5 represented Orchard Fields Community School in the annual Banbury Area Cross Country Competition at Banbury Academy. The children had to run distances between 800m and 1600m. Although we didn’t win, all of the children showed tremendous enthusiasm, determination and self-belief. Their behaviour was excellent and they were a real credit to our school. A special well done must go to Alan Wojciechowski in Year 1, the only boy running for OFCS in the Key Stage 1 boy’s race, who came 10th out of approximately 60 children. Thank you to all of the parents and carers who took the time on their Saturday morning to bring their child to the event. Year 5 - Anglo Saxon History Day On Wednesday 15th October children will be learning history through practical hands on experiences with a company called Medieval Days – Living History. In a typical session children will be dressing up in authentic period costume. Most of the following items are shown - and can be handled or worn as appropriate: ♦ Wearable medieval armour ♦ A pig faced bassinet helmet ♦ A great helm  ♦ A Norman helmet ♦ A re-enactment quality medieval sword and sheath ♦ A full sized and weight Norman Shield ♦ A full weight chainmaille full jerkin and chainmaille coif (children can try these on and feel the weight!)  ♦ Gauntlets ♦ Hand made arrows with various arrowheads ♦ A longbow ♦ A mace This is a fantastic opportunity for children to experience these items first hand, and brings history to life in a far more powerful way than just looking at the items behind glass in a museum.

3 Martial Arts Club Year 2 Gaydon Trip
On Friday afternoons from 3.15pm pm our black belt instructor Ashley Stuart and our children have been enjoying a martial arts club with exercises, kicking and lots of fun. Year 2 Year 2 had their Open Afternoon on Friday 3rd October. The children and their parents enjoyed measuring and making their own potions and taking part in lots of other exciting activities. Gaydon Trip Our trip to Gaydon is fast approaching; unfortunately we have received only a few donations towards the cost of £ If we do not received more contributions by Wednesday 15th October, unfortunately will have to cancel the trip.
