What will Student Kindle Kick-Off Day Look Like?

Kick-Off Logistics 20 minute PEP-RALLY: All 3rd-5th grade students/teachers in the Auditorium Principal will introduce the program CIC’s will go over some general rules/digital citizenship topics Everyone returns to their class. Teachers will begin their Kindle 1st lesson at their designated time. Students will be given their Kindle for the 1st time. Support Staff & JDF Staff will pop in and out of classrooms during the 1st lesson to assist in any way needed.

3 Fun Ways to Introduce Kindles for the 1st Time

1 Creating “How To” Videos to Teach Expectations and Procedures
In teams of 2-4, students can produce short video clips that they can use to teach (or model for) the class to introduce or reinforce a procedure or expectation. Students can use their Kindle camera/video to take the video. It’s up to you, how they will share. Set up You can task groups with different procedures/expectations by having students draw out task cards. Example Student Work Classroom Entry Routine AVID Class Binder

2 Class Experts/ Class Challenge
Give students “structured” free time to explore and learn something new about how to use the Kindle for and become an expert. Once they’ve learned they can teach a small group or share out whole group. Set up a Class Challenge to solve the charging problem or storage problem. You can walk them through the process by: Identifying the problem Brainstorm solutions Test of solutions Get Feedback Make revisions to plan based on feedback

5W’s When can we use the Kindles? Where can we use the Kindles?
What can Kindles do? Why will we use Kindles? Who are the Kindles for? 5W’s WHO? Every 3rd-5th grader on the campus WHAT? It works a lot like a computer in your hand. WHEN? Anytime your teacher asks you to use it. WHERE? It’ll be yours all day long so you could potentially take it to every class with you. You’ll have to talk to the Specials teachers to see if they will be using them in their classes. WHY? They’ve been given to us to enhance our learning. We’ll be able to visit places we couldn’t otherwise, learn about things in different ways, and do projects easily.

KEEP THE Kindle SAFE & CLEAN
Use two hands when handling the Kindle. Why? Make sure your hands are clean before handling the Kindle. Don’t eat or drink near the Kindle.

Kindle Management Only the teacher is allowed to download apps onto the Kindle. You cannot go to the App Store. Turn on Airplane Mode when exiting a room and off when entering a new room to have fast wifi!

Settings There is no need to set a lock pin on your device.
Always stay connected to Kindle_ACCESS. It is the fastest!

Set Daily Procedures Charging Procedures-

Go to the Troubleshooting Poster. Ask an elbow neighbor. Ask a Kindle Helper. Ask the teacher.

This is your HOME SCREEN. Swipe left or right to see Books → Video → Games → etc. Use the buttons to navigate. “Go Back” “Home” Displays all open windows/apps at once
