1
Society Problems Expressed
BY Joshua harmon
2
Main Focus One wants an explanation for what factors influence the behavior and actions of police officers for a police shooting to happen? From the research I have done, the overlooked police misconduct, intentional targeting, implicit bias, and corruption among police departments and the justice system makes the shootings by police officers on unarmed African American civilians more likely to happen.
3
Overlooked misconduct
Statistics from the NPMSRP were compiled between the months of April 2009 and June During this time, there were 5,986 reports of misconduct, 382 fatalities linked to misconduct(Chaney pg.5). Brutality has been reported in our society and has been proven through video evidence.
4
Implicit bias This deals with the racial and stereotypical aspect of what influences shootings by officers on African American citizens Bureau of Justice Statistics using data based on the number of complaints reported by community residents for police use of force suggests that in large police departments 6.6 complaints per 100 police officers occur, with 8% of these complaints resulting in discipline against an officer (National Institute of Justice, National Institute of Justice ( Patterson, pg.3). By the police having any kind of bias or even unintentional bias, it opens up the real possibilities of killing in America.
5
Intentional Targeting
From personal experience I can say that just being an African American draws negative attention to you by police officers. why haven't any changes occurred in the police department since the Rodney King situation?( Chaney, pg 1). Racial profiling and police brutality against Blacks in America are neither emergent social phenomena nor uncommon practice.” ( Pratt-Harris, pg.3).
6
Corruption in Police Departments and the Justice System
Law enforcement agencies need to develop appropriate policy statements to guide officer behavior during these types of field encounters (Thompson, pg.1). Therefore, studies of police use of lethal force have examined many different influencing factors; however, there is a lack of in-depth examinations of decedents(Kesic, pg.2). Somethings they don’t even reveal to society , so sometimes we don’t even know the whole story of what happen. The graph showing how many police units when convicted get a quitted of charges steadly increasing.

A Change has to Come police shootings has been a well-known problem in America for many years. This has to stop and change for the better. Many figures from the past like Martin Luther King jr., Rosa Parks, and Malcolm X have done extraordinary measures to stop this. Is the past becoming the future? People In the past have been treated like dirt to see a change/ stop to this.
8
Continued New faces of the present have tried to use there platform to reach the people that a change need to come. Common is a such artist that has tried to that in his new song “Glory” with John Legend. When will this repeated record of hurt stop?
