Instructions – please read carefully
This exam is designed to test your ability to use SPSS to perform a set of analyses that have been covered in this class during the semester. For the exam you will be using a dataset based on a case study presented in your textbook called “AAA Concepts”. You are allowed to use a hard copy or PDF of the SPSS core exam guide. No other files, presentations, MS or internet applications are allowed. The use of such will result in exam termination. Upon completion, you will save the PPT file with your answers, rename by adding your first and last name and raise your hand to alert the instructor. You will submit your work over outlook in front of the instructor to the and wait for verification that it has been received. Good luck!

Instructions continued
You need to answer 7 questions, which can bring you a total of 14 points equal to 14% of your final grade. You have 70 minutes to complete the exam. Each question is presented on an individual slide. Use the slide body to both provide an answer and paste the table and/or graphic output to support it. When providing your text answers to support the SPSS output make sure you: Choose proper statistical analyses based on the type of variable Read the variables carefully (you only get partial credit for wrong variables) Perform the analysis, create an output and copy it to this exam document State the analysis hypothesis clearly Write which variables you check, what is their value and Hence your determination whether the hypothesis holds or not Have with a clear answer to the question posed
4
Q1: Describe the demographic profile of the sample in terms of “level of education”. Provide graphs. 2 pts Level of education Frequency Percent Valid Percent Cumulative Percent Valid Did not complete high school 194 19.4 High school degree 298 29.8 49.2 Some college 214 21.4 70.6 College degree 222 22.2 92.8 Post-undergraduate degree 72 7.2 100.0 Total 1000 Nearly 30% of the population has received a high school degree. Collectively, 43.6% have gone to college. Less than 20% haven’t completed high school. As a conclusion, we can tell the larger chunk of the population has finished at least high school

One-Sample Statistics
Q2: Test the hypothesis that on general people tend to strongly agree that: “We should be looking for gasoline substitutes” 2 pts One-Sample Statistics N Mean Std. Deviation Std. Error Mean We should be looking for gasoline substitutes. 1000 5.07 2.159 .068 The hypothesis doesn’t hold, because the 2-tailed significance is less than Meaning that in general people do NOT tend to strongly agree with the statement. Given the mean (5.07), they tend to lean more towards “agree”.
6
Q3: Identify whether married and unmarried people differ in their opinion on the “Probability to buy a small (2 seat) hybrid auto within the next three years” 2 pts The t-statistic is within +/-1.96 and the 2-tailed significance is >/=0.05, which means that the hypothesis holds true and they do NOT differ in their opinion.
7
Q4: Identify whether there are at least two income groups that display similarity in their opinion on the “Probability of buying a standard size hybrid auto within the next three years” and name which ones 2 pts There are two subsets of at least two groups that display similarity. Group 1 – under $25,000; Between $25,000 and $49,999; Between $50,000 and $74,999 Group 2 - Between $50,000 and $74,999; $125,000 and higher.
8
Q5: Identify whether the level of education is associated and plays a role in the “Favorite local newspaper section” selection. 2 pts The null hypothesis is that the 2 variables are not related. However, the 2-sided significance of the Chi-Square is below 0.05 which means the hypothesis doesn’t hold. The conclusion is that the level of education DOES play a role in the selection of “Favorite local newspaper section”

Q6: Identify whether there is a correlation, what is the strength and the direction among “Level of education”, “Primary vehicle price type” and “Income category”. 2 pts Correlation Strength Direction EduLevel / PrimVehiclePriceType significant 0.155, none positive EduLevel / IncomeCat 0.232, very weak IncomeCat / PrimVehiclePriceType 0.700, moderate
11
Q7: Identify which of the 12 demographic factors (“townsize” through “commutecat”) can serve as predictors for the preference of an Economy size 4 seat hybrid car AND to what extend they do so. 2 pts These are the factors that can serve as predictors. They can do so to an extend of 72.5%.
