Securing the environment of care is a challenging and continual effort for most healthcare security managers, who face unique challenges in balancing the open campus environment with the protection needs of the hospital’s patients, employees, and other assets. 
No hospital is without risk and effectively managing risk is crucial to maintaining the protection and openness balance.  By conducting a comprehensive risk assessment, hospital security managers can prioritize identified risks, develop an effective hospital security program, and reduce risk to a manageable and acceptable level.

Threats are specific events or conditions that seek to obtain, damage, or destroy a hospital asset. It is indication of impending danger or harm. One that is regarded as a possible danger; a menace.

5. FIRE
A careless employee, a thoughtless visitor , a disoriented patient can inadvently set off a fire. There is great loss of lifes in hospital due to the inability of the patients to move away from the fire speedily.

factors that could lead to fires in hospitals are cooking, electrical short circuits, various appliances and equipment and the careless discarding of things.
The presence of large quantities of fabrics, plastics, wire insulations and grease along with other cooking material also add fuel to the causes of fire. Basically, the presence of heat, fuel and oxygen acts as a catalyst in spreading the fires in hospitals.

7. BOMB
Hospital where such a large number of helpless people are concentrated and utterly dependent on other people for their safety , it is prone for bombing. since patients are medically unfit. terrorist attack main cause physical , psychological ,there will be great loss of life , infrastructures and properties.

8. THEFT
Stealing of cash, new born(Pilferage) is most common now days and mostly caused by workers , visitors, vendors in the hospital.
primarily the items being stolen are: cardiac monitors, endoscopes, anesthesia machines ,neonates etc.
Most commonly done by employees it mostly due to job dissatisfaction , earning more money.

9. MEDICAL GAS LEAK
In hospital oxygen and nitrous oxide is stored in bulk which may leaked or exploded due to careless handling or if abnormal pressure occurs.
Smoking at the place where oxygen is stored may cause explosion.
Potential leak sources include tank valves, high- and low-pressure machine connections; connections in the breathing circuit, defects in rubber and plastic tubing, hoses, reservoir bags, and ventilator bellows etc.

Inhalation of nitrous oxide increased risk of reduced fertility , adverse pregnancy outcomes in females.
initial effects of exposure were coughing, vomiting, severe eye irritation and a feeling of suffocation.
Long term effects are respiratory tract and eyes, breathlessness, stomach pains and vomiting. The causes of deaths were choking, reflexogenic circulatory collapse and pulmonary oedema. cerebral oedema, tubular necrosis of the kidneys.

11. FRAUD
By respected and trusted employees who handle cash , financial transaction , and financial records. It is most common these days.

12. NOSOCOMIAL INFECTION
Due to unhygienic condition , infectious disease may occur in hospital and may cause worsening of patient’s condition or may cause death.
