Technology Application TEKS
TEKS – Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills Technology Application TEKS
2
Texas Essentials The Texas Education Agency, also known as TEA, defines the curriculum to be taught to children in the state of Texas. Technology Applications TEKS were added in 1998. Part 5 is "Technology Application TEKS." (Hint: What are TEKS? Your new principal is NOT from Texas.) The Texas Education Agency defines the curriculum to be taught to Texas children through the TEKS which stands for Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. According to TEA’s FAQs “As stipulated in Texas Education Code (TEC), Chapter 28, the required curriculum consists of foundation and enrichment subjects.” (Texas Education Agency, 2005)

Teachers Teach Technology Apps
Certified teachers, whether elementary or secondary, can integrate or teach the technology applications in their subject area. See website for details: Who is required to teach Technology Applications and in what grades? Classroom assignment rules are stated fully at the SBEC Website, but a summery of these rules as they apply to integrating technology applications TEKS in the classroom or for actual teaching of the technology applications TEKS can be found at this link: Certified teachers, whether elementary or secondary, can integrate the technology applications TEKS into the subjects in which they are certified in grades EC-8. It is the school districts responsibility to ensure the teachers have the necessary knowledge and skills to teach the TA TEKS. If the teachers hold the new EC-4, 4-8, 8-12, or EC-12 certificate, they must hold a Technology Applications certificate at the appropriate grade level for the assignment. To teach the TA TEKS in a separate class/course for grades EC-8, they requirements are basically the same as above. (Texas Education Agency, 2007) High school assignment rules are very specific and can also be read at the link:
