PRE - TEST 1.The gyro error and magnetic compass deviation should be ascertained by oow every …. ? 2. If OOW does not able to check compass error due weather or condition of vessel what the record should be recorded? 3. Describe equipment and publication to used ascertained gyro error and magnetic compass deviation ? CK STUDY CLUB

VESSEL ISPECTION QUESTIONARY CHAPTER 4. NAVIGATION
4.11. Are regular gyro and magnetic compass errors being taken and are they being recorded ? Notes: The gyro error & magnetic compass deviation should be ascertained every watch, where weather condition or traffics density makes it impractical, this fact should be noted in the deck log book or compass error book. The error of the gyro should be determined by external observations-celestial bearing, transit etc, and the gyro and magnetic compass heading then compared to determine the magnetic compass error. Where a gyro repeater is used to take a bearing an accurate comparison between the repeater and the master gyro should be made. CK STUDY CLUB

VESSEL ISPECTION QUESTIONARY CHAPTER 4. NAVIGATION
4.12 Do the error being recorded in the compass error book broad by agree with the deviation card ? Notes: The previous record completed by a certified compass adjusted should be obtained to prove that adjustment has not been required in the intervening period. A comparison between the magnetic and gyro heading should be made at each substantial course alteration and once each watch. Details must be recorded in the Deck log book. Some administrations require compass error to recorded in the deck log book rather than a separate compass error book. CK STUDY CLUB
