Recycling and utilization assessment of some industrial by-product waste for geopolymerization reaction by Reda Gado National research center(NRC), Egypt

Why Geopolymer ???? Nowadays, the world is looking for alternative binder material for OPC which cause a lot of environmental problems during manufacture process.

What is Geopolymer ? Geopolymer is a class of inorganic polymer formed by the reaction between an alkaline solution and an aluminosilicate source material at R. T. The term “geopolymer” was first used by J. Davidovits in late 1970.

Advantages of Geopolymer
High compressive strength and comparable to OPC cement Excellent resistance to sulfate attack Good acid resistance Excellent fire resistance with low thermal properties Freeze –thaw resistance Corrosion resistance Low creep Minimum drying shrinkage Immobilization of toxic and heavy metals Environmentally friendly nature A potential cost effective with low energy consumption

Geopolymer Alkaline activation Sodium hydroxide Potassium hydroxide Acidic activation Phosphoric acid

Highlights The geopolymerization process of waste fired clay brick was successfully carried out. The inclusion of slag leads to improvement in the physico-mechanical properties. These potential recycling processes can generate significant benefits. The lowest compressive strength value was recorded 15 Mpa for specimen (GS0). The highest compressive strength value was recorded 83 Mpa for specimen (GS60).

Investigate the influence of silica modulus SiO2/Na2O and liquid/solid ratio on the geopoymerization reaction of waste fired clay bricks (Grog)

Silica modulus ratio: 2.5, 2, 1.5, 1.0, 0.75, 0.5, 0.25 Liquid/solid ratio: 0.30, 0.35, 0.40

Thanks
