8

Jesus, Thou art all compassion, pure, unbounded love Thou art; Visit us with Thy salvation, enter every trembling heart.

Changed from glory into glory, till in heaven we take our place, Till we cast our crowns before Thee, lost in wonder, love, and praise.
15
*PRAYER OF CONFESSION (unison)
Great and merciful God, the prophet Isaiah tells us that you desire our company; that you want to work with us in loosening the
16
bonds of oppression. But we are too busy with our own lives to see the suffering of others. We know that you want us to feed the hungry, help the
17
homeless, and clothe the naked
homeless, and clothe the naked. We know that you want us to pay attention to the plight of those people in countries that still do not have freedom.
18
We hear your call, but too often we do not answer it. Forgive us, God
We hear your call, but too often we do not answer it. Forgive us, God. Fill us with the desire to do your work in this world. Fill us with the courage to go out and do.
19
We love you – help us to show that love to those who need it most
We love you – help us to show that love to those who need it most. (silence is observed for reflection and prayer)
20
ASSURANCE OF PARDON L: Isaiah tells us that if we call upon God, God will answer; when we cry for help, God will say, “Here I am.” Friends, when we call out, God gives us the
21
gift of forgiveness and restoration through Jesus Christ. P: Hallelujah! We are forgiven. Thanks be to God.

PROCLAIMING THE WORD SCRIPTURE READING: Isaiah 58:1-12
25
Shout out, do not hold back. Lift up your voice like a trumpet
Shout out, do not hold back! Lift up your voice like a trumpet! Announce to my people their rebellion, to the house of Jacob their sins. Yet day after day they seek me and delight to know my ways,
26
as if they were a nation that practiced righteousness and did not forsake the ordinance of their God; they ask of me righteous judgments, they delight to draw near to God. ‘Why do we fast, but you do not see?
27
Why humble ourselves, but you do not notice
Why humble ourselves, but you do not notice?’ Look, you serve your own interest on your fast-day, and oppress al your workers. Look, you fast only to quarrel and to fight and to strike with a wicked fist.
28
Such fasting as you do today will not make your voice heard on high
Such fasting as you do today will not make your voice heard on high. Is such the fast that I choose, a day to humble oneself? Is it to bow down the head like a bulrush, and to lie in sackcloth and ashes?
29
Will you call this a fast, a day acceptable to the Lord
Will you call this a fast, a day acceptable to the Lord? Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of injustice, to undo the thongs of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke?
30
Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover them, and not to hide yourself from your own kin?
31
Then your light shall break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up quickly; your vindicator shall go before you, the glory of the Lord shall be your rearguard. Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer;
32
you shall cry for help, and he will say, Here I am
you shall cry for help, and he will say, Here I am. If you remove the yoke from among you, the pointing of the finger, the speaking of evil, if you offer your food to the hungry and satisfy the needs of the afflicted,
33
then your light shall rise in the darkness and your gloom be like the noonday. The Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy your needs in parched places, and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden,
34
like a spring of water, whose waters never fail
like a spring of water, whose waters never fail. Your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to live in.
35
SCRIPTURE READING: Matthew 5:13-16
36
You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot.
37
You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house.
38
In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.
39
L: This is the Word of the Lord. P: Thanks be to God!

“The Light (You Are)” Rev. Tedd Pullano
41
Genesis 1:1-4a In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters. Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light. And God saw that the light was good.
42
