Record results on ISN p. 140 First measure around entire hand. Estimate how much longer the string will be when you go around each finger. Measure distance around each finger.

Absorption in your intestines
Absorption: when molecules pass through the wall of the digestive system into your blood. Materials not absorbed are eliminated as wastes.

Small Intestine This is where most chemical digestion takes place.
Thick liquid mixes with enzymes and secretions from the small intestine, liver and pancreas.

Liver Produces bile Bile breaks apart fat particles.
Bile is stored in the gallbladder

Pancreas Produces enzymes that help break down starches, proteins & fats.

Absorption in the Small Intestine
Inner surface of the small intestine is filled with millions of villi. The villi absorb nutrient molecules that pass to blood vessels.
