few countries, including the US, didn't keep their promises

3. Clean Air Act Created in 1970 and updated in 1990
CAA tries to make air as clean as possible without adding pollution
Lowers pollution to get rid of greenhouse gases that harm breathing

4. National Environmental Policy Act
Enacted in 1970
Requires federal projects to acknowledge environmental impact
Must make a statement about it to government

5. Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative
An effort made by nine northeast and mid-Atlantic states
issued a proposal to start a regional cap-and-trade program to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from regional power plants
In 2006, California became the first state to enact a statewide cap on global warming pollution
The Global Warming Solutions Act will reduce California's annual global warming emissions by 25% by 2020
