Year 3 - Maths Recognise place value of each digit (3 digits – HTU)
Read, write and order numbers up to 1000 Add and subtract mentally and using written methods up to 3 digit numbers Use inverse operations to check answers Recall and use multiplication and division facts for 3, 4 and 8 times tables Identify 2D and 3D shapes, right angles and pairs of perpendicular and parallel lines Interpret and present data using bar charts, pictograms and tables Already started on the written methods with the theory being it will then support them with their work throughout the year

Year 3 – Maths (cont.) Measure, compare, add and subtract lengths, mass and volume/capacity Add and subtract amounts of money to give change Tell and write the time from an analogue clock Count up and down in tenths Recognise, find and write fractions of a discrete set of objects Recognise and use fractions as numbers Add and subtract fractions with the same denominator Compare and order fractions Fractions plays a much bigger part now

Year 3 - English Using dictionaries to check meaning and spelling
Reading a wide range of texts/genres Developing their comprehension Drawing inferences such as inferring characters’ feelings, thoughts and motives from their actions Predicting what may happen Evaluating, up-levelling and proof-reading their work Extending themselves with the next level of VCOP Handwriting Joined up writing Increase the legibility, consistency and quality Emphasis on SPaG – Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar

In groups or as a class – focus on comprehension Reading books will be changed every Monday, Wednesday and Friday Reminded but children’s responsibility Spellings Teaching them rules New curriculum word guidance Revision to start Applying in their writing Differentiated and extra support where needed

Maths and English/topic Set on Friday and due in the following Wednesday E-Safety Joined up handwriting Good Morning Challenges Book Bags In daily with reading book and reading record Behaviour Merits House points Headteacher awards Celebration assembly on a Friday Book bags – consider the size of the book bag because we are limited for peg space and we don’t want rucksacks ending up on the floor

Uniform – please name it all!
PE kits to be brought in every week and kept on pegs. The best PE bags are the drawstring bags as they hang well on pegs. Please do name it all.

How you can support your child’s learning:
Hear your child read as often as possible from a range of different books Ask them questions about their reading to gage their understanding Use everyday maths around the home such as money and measures Chant times tables everywhere and anywhere! Encourage them to develop routines and independence with their homework Any problems at all, come and see us straight away
