1. 4 Marie Curie Fellowhips available at the Unilever Health Institute, Unilever Research Vlaardingen, The Netherlands
We are looking for 4 postdoctoral fellows (24 months each) that will be employed in the following areas: 1: blood lipids; 2: vascular function; 3: immune health; 4: weight management. You have a background in one of the “life sciences”. You must imperatively be a national of one of the EU countries (or associated states), with the exception of The Netherlands. All positions are open as of October 2001.
You will be trained in many fields such as: involvement in functional food development in an industrial environment, working knowledge of their respective area and the other areas, working knowledge of standardised protocols/test guidelines, working knowledge of quality assurance practices. You will enrol in a challenging, multidisciplinary, multinational and multicultural working environment.

Background
Unilever Bestfoods is one of the worlds leading consumer goods companies with > 300,000 employees. Unilever Research has a long-standing history on nutrition research. On 1 January 2000 the Unilever Health Institute(UHI) has been established, which forms the research and knowledge centre for functional foods within Unilever. UHI activities focus on the identification and verification of efficacy of functional food substances with specific health benefits.
Research
It is essential for functional foods to have their efficacy proven in well-designed and well-conducted studies with human volunteers. It is necessary to develop standardised protocols for conducting intervention studies.
The Unilever Health Institute is looking for fellows who are the key persons in the development of these standardised protocols. You will conduct intensive literature searches and have ample discussions with senior scientists at Unilever as well as with an extensive network of scientists world wide. All fellows will also become involved in new intervention studies and do partly laboratory work.
