Dunlap church of Christ Questions? Just Let Us Know!
Welcome To The Services Of The Dunlap church of Christ Questions? Just Let Us Know!
2
Numbers 23:19-20 “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? (2) Behold, I have received commandment to bless: and he hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it.”
3
God Exists This is a provable, therefore defendable fact (I Th.5:21; I Pet.3:15). The sufficiently revealed God: Revealed in nature, Revealed through His Son, Revealed through & throughout Scripture.
4
The Nature of God What characteristics, qualities, or features does God possess that make Him God?
5
God Is Spiritual John 4:23-24
God is immaterial; He doesn’t have a body. Luke 24:39 “See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh & bones, as ye behold me having.”
6
Anthropomorphic Language
“Man’s form.” By the use of these figures, God is represented as having human body parts. Isaiah 65:2 “I have spread out my hands all the day unto a rebellious people, which walketh in a way that was not good, after their own thoughts.” Hebrew 1:10 “the heavens are the works of thine hands”
7
Anthropomorphic Language
Psalm 8:6 “Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:” I Kings 8:29 “That thine eyes may be open toward this house night and day, even toward the place of which thou hast said, My name shall be there:” II Chron.16:9 For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him.” Han-a-ni’ to Asa
8
Anthropomorphic Language Accommodative language,
i.e., language used of God in order that we as finite beings may be able to better comprehend God, Who is Infinite.
9
Read together Deuteronomy 4:8-20
God Is Invisible Read together Deuteronomy 4:8-20 We are told that the Israelites, “saw no manner of similitude” (i.e., form G. E.) when He appeared to them in Horeb, and therefore they were told not to make to themselves any image of Him.
10
God Is Invisible Exodus 33:20 God told Moses that no man could see Him and live John 1:18 “No man hath seen God at any time.” Rom. 1:20; Col. 1:15; I Tim. 1:17 Paul refers to Him as the invisible God and declares that no man has seen Him or can see Him (I Tim. 6:16).
11
Wonderful Anticipation
“Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God” (Matthew 5:8) “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord” (Hebrews 12:14) “And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads” (Revelation 22:4).
12
How Explain These Passages?
“And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved” Genesis 32:30 “Then went up Moses, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel: (10) And they saw the God of Israel: and there was under his feet as it were a paved work of a sapphire stone, and as it were the body of heaven in his clearness.” Exodus 24:9-10
13
How Explain These Passages?
“And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face,” Deuteronomy 34:10 How is it that we read that “no man hath seen God at any time” (John 1:18), and we read, “I saw also the Lord” (Isa. 6:1).
14
Saw Reflection of His Glory, Not Essence
Exodus 33: “And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live. (21) And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock: (22) And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by: (23) And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.”
15
Saw Reflection of His Glory, Not Essence
Hebrews 1:3 “Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;”
16
God Is Self-Existent God is not dependent for His existence upon anything outside of Himself. Exodus 3:13-14 “And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them? (14) And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.”
17
God Is Infinite God is limitless. God is not limited or constrained by space. On the contrary, all finite space is dependent upon Him. He is above space.
18
He is called “the living God”
God Is Alive He is called “the living God” Joshua 3:10; I Samuel 17:26; Psalm 84:2; Matthew 16:16; I Thessalonians 1:9 He is the source of life unto all things.
19
I Timothy 6:12-13 “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. (13) I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession”
20
God’s Simple Plan REMAIN FAITHFUL (Revelation 2:10)
HEAR (Romans 10:17) BELIEVE (John 8:24) REPENT (Luke 13:3) CONFESS (Rom. 10:9-10) BAPTIZED (Gal. 3:27) ADDED TO THE CHURCH (Acts 2:41,47) REMAIN FAITHFUL (Revelation 2:10)
