6. Greek Theater
Began as a celebration in honor of Dionysos – the god of wine
Took place in amphitheaters – outdoor

Comedy – a play with a happy ending – It tends to be humorous, but does not require that.
Tragedy – ends in multiple deaths
Actors would wear masks that expressed different emotions.

Chorus – a central part of Greek plays – The chorus sang between scenes and would sing praise to Dionysos prior to plays starting. The chorus was treated as an everyman or one of the people.
Choragos – an actor in the chorus that would also be a part of the play; This actor would act as a middleman between the chorus and the main characters.
