Walk-In Take out notebook, folder and pencil box. Copy the question and answer in sentences. Explain why the heart and lungs have to work together to help your body to stay alive.
3
Working Together The lungs have to take in air so oxygen can be put into the blood of the capillaries near the alveoli. The heart has to pump the blood all over the body, to deliver oxygen. The oxygen-poor blood goes back to the heart, which pumps it to the lungs. The lungs breathe out CO2 and take in new oxygen. The heart pumps the oxygen-rich blood out again.

RESPIRATION AND CIRCULATION
Systems working together
5
Veins Have One-Way Valves
The heart and veins contain valves, which open and close the tubes. Veins contain one-way valves. They allow blood to flow forward only, but not backward. Otherwise, oxygen-poor blood could get into the arteries, and the body would not get the oxygen it needs to stay alive!
6
Slide Guide We will do the slide guide on the back of your heart diagram, for Respiratory and Circulatory Working Together. Then write a paragraph in your own words describing this process!
7
Oxygen In Air is breathed in.
In the lungs, the ALVEOLI give OXYGEN to the small CAPILLARIES (blood vessels). The HEART pumps the oxygen-rich blood to the ARTERIES. The ARTERIES transport it to every part of the body.
8
CARBON DIOXIDE OUT The blood picks up the waste gas, CARBON DIOXIDE, from every body part. The VEINS transport the oxygen-poor blood back to the HEART. The HEART pumps the blood to the LUNGS. The LUNGS take the CARBON DIOXIDE and release it out through the TRACHEA, and NOSE OR MOUTH.
9
WORKING TOGETHER Respiration is the process of exchanging oxygen and carbon dioxide. Circulation is the process of moving blood containing oxygen to every body part, and removing carbon dioxide. Cellular respiration is at the cell level. It is the process of releasing energy from nutrients in the cell so it can be stored to be used when needed.
10
Write a paragraph… Use the bottom of your sheet to write a paragraph explaining how the heart and lungs work together to provide oxygen to every body part.
11
4 main points… The lungs breathe in air and oxygen. The blood gets oxygen from the lungs and is pumped by the heart to every part of the body, in the arteries. The veins bring oxygen-poor blood back to the heart, to send to the lungs. The lungs breathe out carbon dioxide and take in fresh oxygen.
