Daily Life Revolved around the Nile and the fertile land near the banks The Nile flooded every year bringing: Enriched soil Good harvest Wealth to the land

Egyptian Homes Homes were made out of materials that were handy and plentiful Most people made their homes out of mud bricks Located in the villages or in the country

Egyptian Diet Consisted of grains, fish, and fruits
Grain was their primary food They enjoyed red meats such as beef Their dry lands made it hard to raise cattle Beef was rather expensive and was eaten at special banquets

Growing Up Their lives were short and difficult
Many newborns did not survive their first year 60-70% Children were told they were a special blessing from the gods if they survived their first year At age 5 boys would either go to school or work in the fields with their fathers At age 4 girls would start to learn how to maintain the house with their mothers

Religion Ancient Egyptians tried to understand their place in the universe and their mythology centers itself on nature, the earth, sky, moon, sun, stars, and the Nile River Heliopolis, the City of the Sun, is located in the ruins of Yunu in northeast Cairo

People of Egypt Most ancient Egyptians worked as:
Field hands Farmers Craftsmen Scribes A small group of people were nobles These people make up the Egyptian population

Family Life The people of ancient Egypt highly valued family
They loved children and regarded them as a great blessing from the gods lower class families the mother raised the children wealthy and nobility had slaves and servants that helped take care of the children by attending to their daily needs

Marriage Peasant girls usually married around the age 12
Girls of rich families married a few years older The boys were a few years older The marriages were arranged by parents Some young people chose their own spouse The ordinary man normally had one wife, the kings always had several
