Servian Walls Built in the 4th Century B.C.E. before the Second Punic Wars Named after 6th King of Rome as originally dated to the 6th century Repelled Hannibal during the Second Punic Wars Maintained till end of Republic

Aurelian Walls Built during the 3rd Century C.E.
11ft thick, 26 feet high, 12 miles in Perimeter inclosing 5.3 square miles of city. A tower was built every 100 roman feet (97 ft).

Built by Emeperour Aurelian.
Improved during the 5th Century to 52 ft in height By the 5th Century the Wall contained 23 gates and 383 towers.

Fun Facts The Aurelian Walls only had a garrison of 25,000 men
Only meant to repel small scale raids Until 1870 the walls were Rome’s main defense Used to define the border of the City State of Rome.
