Qof meeting: 2014/15 flu uptake: 178 children aged 2-4 years 39 had the vaccine 22% uptake Decision made to introduce in-school flu immunisations to improve ease, accessibility and uptake Challenges First ever school clinics locally Clinical governance, safety concerns Managing clinics in the community Overcoming parental anxieties and resistance Planning & Organisation Results 2015/16 Feedback Recommendations Identifying need Liaison with local schools, agreeing date and logistics (including hosting refreshments, ‘Peak a flu’ book to each class) Findings presented to practice team- agreed to keep the model for next year Class teachers to encourage more consent forms to be returned in advance Signpost any questions to the surgery ahead of clinics to address parental concerns Further promote option that children can be accompanied by class teacher versus parent/guardian Clinics to be overseen by GP trainee or nurse Continue to ensure flu clinics take place when nearest local surgery is open with GP partner on standby Distribution via school including covering letter, info leaflet and consent form Consent forms returned to school and collected by surgery for review prior to clinic On the day talk from surgery team, signposting what happens next, answering questions and delivering PR messages. We also highlighted importance of children receiving all their childhood immunisations Flu immunisations given (with lollies & stickers); crash bag on standby (remote environment) Children’s Flu Immunisations Change of Management Project The Old Bridge Surgery, Looe Pippa Le Page % Age “Parents responded well, with minimum disruption to the school day.
