1 Professional nursing practice
Professional: Is a profession that requires special knowledge, skill and preparation. An occupation that requires advanced knowledge and skills and that it grows out of society’s needs for special services.

Included : 1-Nurse Practice Acts 2-Licensure and Certification 3-Science and Art of Nursing practice

3 Professional Roles 1- Caregiver Assess the client, analyze collected information to determine the client’s need, developing nursing plan of care 2- Advocate Assist the client & family on interpreting information from other health care team members 3- Educator Work with clients, family members & caregivers regarding health promotion, disease & treatment

4 Characteristics of a Profession
-Requires an extended education of its members. -A profession has a theoretical body of knowledge leading to defined skills, abilities and norms. -A profession provides a specific service. -Members of a profession have autonomy in decision-making and practice. -The profession has a code of ethics for practice.

5 Nursing - Is a disciplined involved in the delivery of health care to the society. -Is service-oriented to maintain health and well-being of people. - Is an art and a science.

6 Characteristics of Nursing:
1- Nursing is caring. 2-Nursing involves close personal contact with the recipient of care. 3-Nursing is concerned with services that take humans into account as physiological, psychological, and sociological organisms.

Accountability 1-Personal accountability 2-Public accountability Nurses, as a professionals, are responsible for their actions The goal is to: 1-Maintain high standards of care 2-Protect the patient from harm Licensures

1.The personal dimension. 2. The social dimension. 3-The physical dimension

9 Dimensions of Nursing Practice
1.The personal dimension. The nursing assessment based upon theories of human development and communication. A- It is inclusive of the person's self-concept, body image, self-awareness, and self-esteem. B- Assessment also involves meanings of sexuality, spirituality, and philosophical values particular to each person.

1.The personal dimension. C-Clients as persons, families, and/or communities are viewed as open systems that interact and interface with the environment.

2. The social dimension focuses on the person in the family and environment. A-Includes the cultural, moral, and political realms. B-Assessments within this dimension identify roles and patterns of behavior that impact on health maintenance and related behaviors.

3-The physical dimension: include: The cardiovascular, Gastrointestinal, Genitourinary/reproductive, Integumentary, Musculoskeletal, Neurologic respiratory systems. The genetic patterns
