1 Chris Hughes SMS/GIS Project
Safety SMS/LRS Project Temporality and Historical LRS/GIS is managed in Oracle and GeoMedia Chris Hughes SMS/GIS Project

2 Agenda / Overview Presentation Goal: to provide a simple overview of the temporal data concepts and how they are managed in GeoMedia/Oracle Main Agenda Items LRS concepts Temporality Building Milepost LRM Event Data Demos Questions

3 NDOT LRS concepts Most data within the DOT is collected by linear measure – usually Milepost Index variants A coordinated GIS and LRS ensure that most (valid) linear referenced data is tied down in space The SMS GIS project ties multiple linear measurements to multiple map data sets Maps: SDS (state location data) and CDS (all local roads) LRS Methods: SC: entire route - State cumulative Measures CC: County Cumulative Measures Addr: partial address measurement system The kicker: BOTH map and linear data references change over time

4 Temporality Oracle has two products that handle historical data:
Oracle XML database: manage each route as an XML doc and can have multiple versions Oracle Workspace Manager (OWM): creates multiple tables and views of the LRS and keeps track of all edits GeoMedia uses OWM Maintains history of your geometry, routes, and measures This same data can be used in applications from Nancy and Al

7 Building Milepost LRM Goal: To provide a spatial reference to milepost panels to assist in spatially locating any information which is referenced to the panels in the field. Used the work from Jerry and Lawrie and Location and tied the internal milepost index measures (with equations) to SDS locations Created continuous measures (linear LRM) from the internal Milepost data Secured the data so that we can generate revisions and historical snapshots of the data

8 Event Data Any information that has:
Route Master Id (valid) Milepost index measures Effective date Can be spatially located on the SDS (SRN) or CDS and combined with any other data Examples: Crash Data Alias Names (referenced by MilePost, Intersection, RouteCum etc)
