3 Part 1. Potential of Facebook
Grew your Chapters profile through Facebook Increase visibility of your state chapter and efforts by using Facebook Connect with members on a personal level Use Facebook as a website function to showcase members, events, news topics, etc. Our Facebook drives 11,000 visits to ASAM.org every year Our Facebook likes have increased nearly 60% YTD, we use our page to increase views to our website We also use our page to boost event traffic Reaching over 3,000 a week

Logging In Use the ASAM provided password and address to log-in If you lose this password or have trouble logging-in please contact Members at or Once you log-in you will be taken to your Home page, to access your page go to the top right you should see “Your Pages” If you do not see Your Pages Tab, go to the top blue bar and click on the down arrow next to the Lock symbol, this will show your pages as well Please Note: Every Chapter has a unique page as well as a hidden Facebook profile, this profile is not intended to be used and is hidden from the general public

5 Part 2. Logging In To access your page go to the top right you should see “Your Pages”

6 Part 3. Grow Your Page Invite your friends to “like” your page
Log-in to a personal Facebook account and go to your page, from here go to your page and under the more tab click “Invite Friends” You can also invite people via Under the same more Tab click “Suggest Page” This will give you the option of inviting people in your contact list on services like Gmail, Outlook, Ymail, Constant Contact and others Announce FB page on your Chapter’s Website Add icons and/or posts for your Facebook page We will send an to send to your members From ASAM National, to all chapter members inviting them to like your page

Go to your Chapter’s page and post in the text box Articles Paste url link in the text box to post article Pictures Tagging people and members Links and editing articles titles Reposting and liking our Nat’l page posts Using Nat’l page content Tagging Society of Addiction Medicine (select us) Using #AddictionMedicine, #Addiction for posts Also Reference our Social Media Toolkit in the Chapters Resources page on ASAM.org

10 Where to Post

11 Paste url of an Article into the post box, this will automatically create an image and Title

12 Schedule a Post You can also “Schedule” a post to go out in the future, click the drop down menu next to “Publish”. If you select “Publish” that will post it right away.

13 Posting Resources Research or studies from reliable sources (JAM, AMA, NEJM, JAMA) You can also Repost these post from JAM and ASAM Info useful to your members like upcoming ASAM Webinars, eLC courses, chapter news (elections, meetings, member growth, dues) News or issues related directly to your chapter or area Articles in the ASAM Weekly and Member Connect

14 Reposting It is always useful to repost from JAM or ASAM or other useful pages. To do this go to that page and click “Share” and then click “Share…”

15 Sharing Post After clicking “Share” a second pop-up box will come up. Do NOT click post yet, click on the box that says “Share on your own Timeline”

16 Sharing Post A drop down menu will come up. Select the option that says “Share on a Page you manage”

17 Sharing Post Then Select the page you manage, you should see Posting as “YOUR Society of Addiction…” From here click “Post” this will share this post on your Chapter’s page.

18 What to post My Chapter should post how often? Good Posts
You should post once or twice a week on your page (on weekends the best time to post is in the morning, and during the week the best time is around lunch or between 6:00-7PM) Good Posts Reposting From ASAM National page is useful Pictures of your members winning awards, articles of pictures from annual meetings, members in the news (ex Champions of Change) Articles that quote certain members or Op-ed pieces from your members (vetted) Research or studies from reliable sources (JAM, AMA, NEJM, JAMA) Info useful to your members like upcoming ASAM Webinars, eLC courses, chapter news (elections, meetings, member growth, dues) News or issues related directly to your chapter or area Articles from the ASAM Weekly or Member Connect

19 What NOT to post Bad Topics
Certain topics are Red-light issues on Facebook Marijuana Use and Marijuana legalization Overly political statements and political endorsements Please check our advocacy page for the most current stances on policies and laws ( Personal beliefs, personal business interests Celebrity news regarding addiction (ex Prince, Johnny Manziel) ASAM Toolkits Guideline of ASAM’s stances on certain topics (marijuana, opioids, smoking, others) Articles that use the wrong terms Please Reference Facebook Resources in the Chapter Resources page on ASAM.org

Events If you have an upcoming meeting or conference you can create an Event from your page Creating an “Event” will let create a special sub page from your Chapter’s page that hosts all relevant information and allows people to RSVP for your event and buy tickets To Create an Event go to your Chapter’s page and select “Events” on the right hand side below your Chapter’s Logo From here you will see a blue “create an event” tab You want to fill out as much information you can and possible create a unique header for your event
