What is gypsum? A mineral and a sedimentary rock
Found in thick layers after salt water evaporates It is a SULFATE - made of oxygen and sulfur (CaSO4.2H2O) Very soft - 2 on Mohs' hardness scale A fingernail can easily scratch it

Who uses gypsum? Builders - Cement, drywall, and plaster
Dentists - Making molds of of teeth Doctors - Surgical casts You and Me - Toothpaste Artists and Metal workers - “Plaster of Paris”, Gesso, molds Farmers - add to soil Chefs - Makes tofu firm!!

Where is gypsum found in California?
Colorado Desert Imperial Valley In a deep crack between plates!
