Welcome to the end of Key Stage 1 meeting

Reading Children need to read 90 words, at a reasonable pace, in one minute.

They need to read all the ‘common exception words in the pack that you have been given.
These are words that do not follow a pattern but are used frequently.

In the pack there is a list of the type of questions your child will be asked and suggested questions that you could ask at home. Openers to sentences ;Once, Soon, Late, Early one day

Writing Children need to use legible handwriting and must form letters correctly keeping them the same size with capitals taller. Their writing needs to include descriptions. E.g. the golden haired girl, a snow capped mountain

Sentences should include words like : or, and, but- to join ideas and when, if, that, because -to give reasons in sentences. All this makes their writing more interesting to the reader.

Once upon a time there was a hairy, grey town mouse who went to the countryside for his holiday. On his travels he met a country mouse who was very kind so he invited the town mouse to stay and have a meal with him. The town mouse was happy to stay because he was tired and weary but the town mouse didn’t like the food that he was given.

Spelling Children need to spell the common exception words. There is a list in the parent’s pack. They need to spell words with suffixes, ness, less, ly, ed, ment: hopeless, happily, enjoyment, jumped These words are part of your child’s spelling programme this year. Spelling of words using the phonic patterns that have been taught from reception

Maths Children need to recall the 2x, 5x and 10x tables and know the related division facts. They should be able to apply calculations skills to solve real life problems.

There were 12 strawberries.
They were shared between 4 friends how many did each child get? There were 19 children on the bus. 4 got off but at the next stop 15 more got on. How many are on the bus now?

They need to know 1 more/less and
10 more/ less than any 2 digit number. E.g. 17and 1 more, 17 and 10 more. Read and write numbers correctly up to 100 Read the time to the nearest 5 minutes. Make money amounts using different coins.

There is also a list of activities and tables games to help your child become quicker at knowing their tables.
