Create Aurasma Book Reviews
Promote reading and books in your classroom and library by using Aurasma. Students and staff read books, write book reviews, and then recommend them to one another using video. Click on the photo to watch a video sample. Click here.

What is Aurasma? Aurasma is an app that allows users to create Augmented Reality. See the video links below to learn more and see demonstrations of “Auras” in action. Augmented Reality explained Aurasma demo samples Aurasma at TED Talk

Students follow these steps…

5
Popplet app: 2. Complete a mind-map through drawing or writing (important information, reactions, connections, recommendations). *Use the Popplet app, Inspiration software, or use your own version. Inspiration software:

3. Write/Draw a book review script using the writing process
3. Write/Draw a book review script using the writing process. * Try the provided “TAG” review strategy handout to help students make improvements to their scripts. *Use or modify the provided template.
7
4. Practise presenting the book review before the final recording.
* Practise, practise, practise. * Have students video their practise sessions (when possible) to give students a chance to self-assess and make improvements before publishing their video. * Try partnering students up to use a peer feedback tool (ie. “Two Stars and a Wish” handout–provided) to help one another improve their presentation.
8
5. Record the book review to create the book’s “Aura”
5. Record the book review to create the book’s “Aura”. * Use a stand or a steady hand to hold the iPad. * Make sure there is little to no background noise when recording. * Don’t record in front of a busy background...be aware of what’s behind you. * Make the script’s print large enough to be seen from where you’re videoing. * Video with a partner. * If self-recording, cover the iPad’s screen (but not the camera) with the script facing the student.
9
6. Create the Aurasma. * Use the book’s cover as the trigger image for the aura.
* Make sure the Aurasma’s Trigger Image Colour Scale is in the green . Source:

7. View posted Aurasmas. * Follow the Chinook STRC Aurasma channel, at your own school’s Aurasma channel. (See provided instructions.) * Place a recognizable sticker on the book’s spine so students know an Aurasma is attached. * Make sure there is enough light for Aurasma to pick up the trigger image. * Use the Aurasma Book Reviews to find new books to read!
