Genetic: BRCA1, BRCA 2 Carcinogens: Tobacco, asbestos, alcohol Radiation Infection: Virus e.g Human Papilloma Virus, Hepatitis B, C, etc

SYMPTOMS Fever Weight loss/wasting Pain
Pressure: Impingement on adjacent structures Bleeding Secondary infections Production of hormones

DIAGNOSIS Laboratory tests: blood, body fluid, aspirates, biopsies
Radiology: X rays, Ultrasound, CT scan, MRI

In Men: skin, prostate, bowel and lung In Women: skin, breast, bowel and lung

Survival rate 65 % for 5 years from time of diagnosis

PREVENTION Regular check ups Screening programs:
BREAST: Mammogram at 50 then 2 yearly. At 40 if immediate family history BOWEL: FOBT at Regular colonoscopy if immediate family history CERVICAL: Currently 2 yearly pap smears, As of May yearly molecular test. SLIP, SLOP, SLAP
