BELL/SSR Get a book out and read silently.
If you do not have a book, get a magazine or a book from the bookcase along the wall.
3
The student will… CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, well-chosen details, and well-structured event sequences by explaining his personal writing and creating a metaphor to encompass it.
4
Who are you as a writer? Who are you as a writer? Do you blog? Do you carry around a notebook? Do you procrastinate writing assignments? Do you write down all your thoughts and revise once you’ve said all you need to, or do you revise as you write? Take five minutes to write about who you are as a writer.
5
My Metaphor Thinking about your responses, come up with a metaphor that captures who you are as a writer. Are you a rough draft, always working on new ideas, changing, revising? Are you a rain storm, furiously pelting the page with ideas? Are you the frame of a new house, great at coming up with the framework for your writing but missing the specific details and decorations? Consider your strengths and weaknesses carefully. Take 10 minutes to brainstorm ideas for your metaphor. Your metaphor is to be descriptive of you as a writer and it must be ORIGINAL!
6
About Me Complete the ‘About Me’ activity…
Five minutes --- Who are you as a writer? Ten minutes --- What metaphor best captures your ability, strengths, etc. as a writer? Brain break…
7
Brain Break Draw a caricature or self portrait of yourself from the shoulders upward. Although artistic ability will not be scored, your effort will be. So put your best ‘face’ forward and don’t just ‘slap’ something together! Use crayons, markers, etc. to design a compelling ‘look a like.’
8
About Me You have 200 words to spend! Combine the ideas expressed in the previous two steps of this activity into one. Your final product can be a poem or a paragraph – it’s up to you! Incorporate the metaphor and explain how it fits you. Also, place portrait and ‘I Am’ poem in IN tray.
9
Tune Rules Choose a playlist and stick with it!
You may listen to music by following these guidelines: Choose a playlist and stick with it! Leave one ear open for me! When I talk, the ear bud comes out. Music should not be heard by anyone but you!
