Year 2 doors will open from 8.45am Children greeted and complete morning challenge Any messages can be passed through the office or class teacher if available on the door If you arrive after 9am please report to the school office where your child can order their lunch. Please note Maths begins at 9.00am. Please sign the reading diary to show that your child has read – a quick ‘book read’ or ‘read to p.7’ is fine. Question your child about what they have read. In school Daily short reading comprehension activities for 30minutes as whole class. With an adult 1:1 once/week working through wordstrips and the reading scheme Hour class reading session on Mondays

13 Importance of reading daily…
Access to increased vocabulary – helps writing. Visual recognition of words – proofreading own writing, editing work, spelling words. Increased stamina – national expectation for Y2 to read at 90 words a minute. Maths – Being able to independently read word problems. Following written guidance during independent activities - 90% of work in Y2 is independent End of year assessment

14 Writing By the END of Year 2 a child should be able to us a variety of skills in writing, but the New Curriculum places a larger emphasis on the following: Write a sequence of sentences using correct punctuation, including a wider range of punctuation (? ! , ‘) Write with correct grammar and know grammatical terms (noun, verb, adjective, adverb, prefix, suffix, past tense, present tense) Spell all key words correctly and use mostly correct spelling for all other word. Correct formation of all letters, fluently joined (including homework books)

15 Grammar Children will be expected to understand and use the following in daily writing: Identifying Adjectives, Adverbs, Nouns and Verbs** Understanding spelling rules for past and present tense** Spelling rules for plurals** Identifying a grammatically correct sentence Adding missing punctuation to sentences, (including full stops, commas, question marks, exclamation marks and apostrophe’s) Identifying and recognising sentence types (including statements, questions, commands and exclamations)

18 Mathematics Learners can discuss their work using mathematical language. They can half and quarter in practical contexts. They can read, write, order numbers beyond 100. They can count in steps of 2, 3, 5 and 10 from a given number. Recognise place value of digits. Recall the 2x, 5x and 10x multiplication tables (and division facts). Have strategies for adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing. Understand the properties of common 2D and 3D shapes. Understand quarter turns. Measures (mass, length, capacity, temperature) Tell the time to 5 minute intervals.

Revolved around the importance of instant marking and feedback. Children found verbal feedback most valuable over extensive written comments. Add a piece of writing including new approach

Homework books – Given out on Wednesday, returned by Monday. Homework Review – School Council and Parent Voice Group Spellings / Times tables Homework Schedule EYFS 1 piece each week Pick & Mix Projects 8 activity suggestions available on the class page and Medium Term Overviews as optional extras KS1 Maths / English on weekly rotation KS2 1 x Maths 1 x English

Website: Primary source for information including calendar, class pages and general school information All letters, including newsletters, trip/event letters, club letters, PTA communications, will be sent to the identified 1st contact. Twitter: Whole school and year group account will share events and celebrations ParentPay: Provides school with parental consent for events / trips Text: Will be used to inform 1st contact of short notice information and follow up unreported absence

24 Medicines We can administer prescription medicines that are required for more than 3 times a day, on some occasions we will administer medicines that are required 3 times a day – you will need to complete a form at the office If your child is too unwell for school, please telephone (not or text as these are not monitored) the school office before 9am as any unexplained absence will be followed up by the school office 48 hour sickness / diarrhoea rule Please update your class teachers on any medical issues (i.e. asthma etc.) Individual Health Care Plans will be drawn up between parents and school for a child with any significant medical needs
