Increased stamina – national expectation for Y2 to read at 90 words a minute.

14. Writing
By the END of Year 2 a child should be able to us a variety of skills in writing, but the New Curriculum places a larger emphasis on the following:
Write a sequence of sentences using correct punctuation,
including a wider range of punctuation (? ! , ‘)
Write with correct grammar and know grammatical terms
(noun, verb, adjective, adverb, prefix, suffix, past tense, present tense)
Spell all key words correctly and use mostly correct spelling for all other word.
Correct formation of all letters, fluently joined (including homework books)

Children will be expected to understand and use the following in daily writing:
Identifying Adjectives, Adverbs, Nouns and Verbs**
Understanding spelling rules for past and present tense**
Spelling rules for plurals**
Identifying a grammatically correct sentence
Adding missing punctuation to sentences, (including full stops, commas, question marks, exclamation marks and apostrophe’s)
Identifying and recognising sentence types (including statements, questions, commands and exclamations)

18. Mathematics
Learners can discuss their work using mathematical language.
They can half and quarter in practical contexts.
They can read, write, order numbers beyond 100.
They can count in steps of 2, 3, 5 and 10 from a given number.
Recognise place value of digits.
Recall the 2x, 5x and 10x multiplication tables (and division facts).
Have strategies for adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing.
Understand the properties of common 2D and 3D shapes.
Understand quarter turns.

24. Medicines
We can administer prescription medicines that are required for more than 3 times a day, on some occasions we will administer medicines that are required 3 times a day – you will need to complete a form at the office
If your child is too unwell for school, please telephone (not or text as these are not monitored) the school office before 9am as any unexplained absence will be followed up by the school office
48 hour sickness / diarrhoea rule
Please update your class teachers on any medical issues (i.e. asthma etc.)
Individual Health Care Plans will be drawn up between parents and school for a child with any significant medical needs
