SCADA for Remote Industrial Plant
Introduction SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) for Remote Industrial Plant is designed for achieving and controlling the real time data remotely by the administration for large scale industries. Many processes are going on in the large scale industries where monitoring and controlling all the processes at a time is not possible manually . It is achieved by the adapting technology like SCADA.

MAX 232 MAX232 is an integrated circuit that converts signals from an RS-232 serial port to signal suitable for use in TTL compatible digital logic circuit. The MAX232 is a dual driver/receiver and typically converts the RX, TX, CTS and RTS signals. When a MAX232 IC receives a TTL level to convert, it changes a TTL logic 0 to between +3 and +15V.

Voltage Regulators A voltage regulator is an electronic circuit which maintains the output voltage (almost) constant in spite of changes within some specified limits in the load current, input voltage, temperature, etc. An IC based voltage regulator can be classified in different ways. A common type of classification is 3 terminal voltage regulator and 5 or multi terminal voltage regulator.

System Operation Temperature sensors are befittingly interfaced to the 8051 micro-controller which is in turn connected to a PC. On the front end, “DAQ System” (software) loaded in the computer which takes these values and displays them on its front panel, and also logs then in the database. One can set parameters like set point, low limit and high limits on the computer screen. When temperature of a sensor goes above the set point the micro-controller sends a command to the corresponding relay.

System Operation The heaters are connected through relay contacts (corresponding to their sensors) are turned OFF. And are available for generating an AV alarm on the PC in the event of system failure. Hence, processes at hazardous area can be controlled accurately and better safety using Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition. Adapting such a technology will save both money and time.

SCADA for Remote Industrial Plant
Working Principle For achieving the real time scenario for SCADA, a temperature logging system for a remote plant operation is taken. Here temperature sensors are interfaced to the 8051 microcontroller with help of a 8 channel ADC device. Where the temperature sensors collect the data and send them to the microcontroller. The heaters (shown as lamps) are connected to relay contacts corresponding to their sensors which are controlled by the relay driver IC.

Working Principle This system is interfaced to the PC using RS-232 cable having a GUI for interactive actions by the operator. Whenever temperature of a sensor increases from set point of the GUI, the microcontroller sends a command to the corresponding relay. The relay is made to switch ON and OFF the heater (a lamp load) to maintain the set temperature. Hence, the high limit and low limit features are available for generating an AV alarm on the PC in the event of any abnormal situation.

Working Principle At the front end, “DAQ System” software is loaded on the computer which takes sensor values. And display those values in front of the panel and also logs them in a database. The software has the provision for setting of the sensor parameters such as set point, low limit and high limit on the computer screen. Hence, in the large scale industrial plants control many processes with more accuracy and better safety using SCADA.
