INTRODUCTION and OVERVIEW:
Tell us a little about you: name/org/your informal title (i.e. what you really do all day). Have fun with it! The time we spend together today will be focused on a brand new resource - BankingOnMyCareer.com and helping you deeply understand this tool so you can leverage it in your work. We’re building onto the collaborative and creating a community of BankingOnMyCareer.com supporters. You may be wondering about the logos on the slide. The NYC ETC is the owner of the site we’re talking about today. They use it to help promote workforce development so employers can find the skilled workers they need and people will be educated and prepared for a great career in Financial Services. The JPMorgan Chase Foundation funded the entire initiative and the development of the resource as a part of their New Skills at Work effort. They, along with the other key stakeholders listed here: The NYC Mayor’s Office of Workforce Development and the Partnership for NYC helped bring together the industry employers and educators, and CAEL (the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning) built the site by bringing together industry partners and educators to help people link learning and education with meaningful, secure work. 5 min

What it is: What it does: A pipeline catalyst
GOALS OF THE PRODUCT What it is: We know that people are much more likely to reach their career goals when they have a clear line-of-sight to their path forward. We also know that currently there is a mismatch, or skills gap, between employer needs and the skills of current job seekers. JPMorgan Chase saw an opportunity to positively impact that gap and invested $250M to help markets, like New York City, build a demand-driven workforce system and prepare youth and adults for careers in high demand, high salary, middle-skill occupations. Over 100 Financial Services subject-matter-experts and dedicated project stakeholders from companies such as Standard Chartered, Bank of America, Amalgamated Bank, and many others contributed to the focus, content, and outreach for the site. All coming together with a unified industry voice. NYCETC will maintain the website ongoing by providing resources and expertise for content curation, hosting, promotion, and training activities. BankingOnMyCareer.com is: A pipeline catalyst A window into the industry- providing exposure to what the industry needs/wants and helping students/job seekers prepare for work and find meaningful work An industry convener What it does: BankingOnMyCareer.com is an interactive, visually-engaging, and information-packed career exploration resource for the Financial Services industry. BankingOnMyCareer serves as a catalyst to attract new interest in the Financial Services industry, illuminate industry opportunities, and ultimately increase applications to training and education programs to raise the number of work-ready job seekers. BankingOnMyCareer.com Aims to Do 3 Things: - Makes advising easier (Generate excitement about the industry and empower future workers to take the long view when considering careers) - Creates industry Ambassadors (Connect students to programs and training that prepares them for Financial Services jobs; helps others tell the employers’ and industry story, the Right Way) - Attracts diverse workers to new and emerging jobs ASK: Which of these outcomes are most advantageous to your organization and work right now? 5 min What it is: A pipeline catalyst A window into the industry An industry convener What it does: Makes advising easier Creates industry Ambassadors Attracts diverse workers to new and emerging jobs

Helping students and job seekers win.
ESSENCE OF THE TRAINING: This is about creating a win-win scenario for employers and job seekers. In the vein of winning, we’ve given this training a Monopoly theme. Part of life is preparing for work. Best case scenario, we choose an educational path that supports a career path for which we are well-suited. While we can’t always control the where we land, or what happens when we land there, we know that with the right planning, people are much better positioned to handle whatever comes their way. Those with a clear line of sight on their career goals are much more likely to reach those goals. Not necessarily easy street, but the game of life becomes easier with a well laid-out and well fitted plan. It’s our job to see that the students and job seekers we work with are ready for the challenges life presents. With the right education and well-matched career, the odds of a smooth ride on that game board are much better! We’re here today to help you help the students and job seekers you work with. 3 min

Starting to Navigate the Site
SITE OBSERVATIONS: Have you had a chance to visit the site? What were your initial impressions of the site? Did you have the opportunity to see and try out the interactive video: The UNDO Button? What were your thoughts? How can this tool be helpful for students and job seekers? As you probably saw, there is a LOT of information on this site. In an effort not to overwhelm users, initial pages contain less text and deeper pages contain more. This is because initial pages exist to whet the appetite and inner pages contain the information users must be seeking because they are several pages deep. ASK: What lessons did you learn through the matching experience? About yourself? About your clients? About job seekers? 5 min What lessons did you learn through the matching experience?

Using BankingOnMyCareer.com in your advising sessions
ACTIVITY EXPLANATION: Learning Objective 3 - Activity: Student scenarios are provided for groups of 3 to play the student/advisor role while talking about the site or industry MAKE EMPLOYERS THE OBSERVERS Now that we’ve had a chance to really explore it, we want to give you a chance to utilize your skills in conjunction with the site. We’ve heard from previous trainings on these sites that having a chance to use the site to counsel a student was very helpful. With the people nearest you, let’s break into groups of three (3). Pause. In this next activity, each of your three will have a role- that of an advisor, a student or job seeker seeking advice, and an observer. We’ll give you each a chance to play all three roles. MATCHING: The information in the Match Me Tool was pulled from resources such as the Bureau of Labor Statistics and Onet. It was then localized for the region and validated by HR and Workforce Development experts from NYC’s Financial Services industry. Matching on a student or job seeker’s interests take precedence since people have innate likes and dislikes but we can build or skills and educational level with a bit of time and effort. This tool is a conversation starter. It can be used as you sit with a student or job seeker in an advising session. Perhaps you have a battery of job assessments at your disposal but want to start with something quick and easy, this is a great tool for that. It can also be used as homework “visit BankingOnMyCareer.com, complete the Match Me tool, and then come back with your top 4 matching jobs. We’ll take a look at what skills and education you need for those roles.” 3 min Using BankingOnMyCareer.com in your advising sessions Put it to practice

Advising Session Groups of three:
ACTIVITY: ADVISING SESSION: Once you have decided who will play each role in your first round, you’ll choose one of these cards (hold up cards). We have created practice scenarios with the questions of a student or job seeker. Who ever is playing the Advisor will pick the card most applicable to their role and, without reading it, give it to the student/job seeker in your three-person group. After that person has had a chance to read the card, he or she will pose their questions to the Advisor. As the Advisor, your role is to use the website to guide your student or job seeker to consider a career in Financial Services. It may be helpful to guide them to the Match Me tool, Education Programs, About Financial Services, or all of the above. If you are an Observer, take note of at least one thing the Advisor does well. It may also be helpful to take note of other pages one might visit during a session like this- remember, there is no one right way to navigate the site. Ask co-presenters to model a session or ask participants for a volunteer student (who asks the question) and you the presenter will play the advisor and give guidance. Then ask your audience to play the role of the Observer and give (gentle) feedback. We’ll give you about 5 minutes for each round, letting you know when it’s time to switch roles. After you’ve had a chance to complete 3 rounds, we’ll discuss the activity as a group. Questions for debrief with all participants after activity is complete: How did the site help you talk about the industry with your student? How did the site empower you as the Counselor/Case Manager/Advisor/Recruiter? How did the site empower you as the student or Job Seeker? *Listen for additional feedback* 25 min Advising Session Groups of three: 1 Advisor/Counselor - advises seeker using the site 1 Student/Job Seeker - presents chosen scenario 1 Observer - provides feedback on use of the site Switch roles Time limit: 15 minutes
