1 Monday November 28, 2016 Warm-up: Answer the following using complete sentences. Is there a difference between dissolving and melting?

2 Cracker Lab Step 1 – Put half a regular cracker into your mouth and chew. Record what it tastes like? Was it sweet? Plain? Hard? Soft? Etc. Step 2 – Place the other half in your mouth and let it sit for 1.5 minutes before chewing and answer the following questions (number 2 should be answered at the 1-minute mark).

3 Observations – 1) What does it feel like initially?
2) What it feels like after 1 minutes in your mouth 3) What it feels like after 1.5 minutes in your mouth 4) What it feels like when you chew it? What was the main texture (feeling) difference in your mouth between chewing right away and waiting 1.5 minutes before chowing down?

4 *Use your phone, look up Sunrise and Sunset for today.

Working in groups; 1 student will collect supplies: 1 tray, 1 beaker of milk, 1 beaker of oil, 1 beaker of water, small dab of butter, 3 pieces of cotton 1 student will get 1 paper towel and draw 4 squares, 3 in x 3 in < Using cotton swab, put samples of three liquids (milk, water, oil) in the squares. C*E*R - In journals, students will write CLAIM (what they think the spots will show). Once dry, the fats will leave translucent spots behind. This may be easier to see when held up to the light. In journals, students will record EVIDENCE (draw sketch of squares and what they see, explain what happened). REASONING (what do the spots mean, including the water).
