3. Independent vs Dependent Events
Determine whether the events are dependent or independent
One coin is tossed, and then a second coin is tossed.
A teacher is drawing student names for class prizes. She draws Karen’s name, and does not replace her in the drawing.
Wednesday’s lottery numbers and Sunday’s lottery numbers.
A card is chosen from a complete deck of cards, not replaced, then a second card is selected.

4. Example 1
Brian draws first and keeps his slip of paper, and Kevin draws second. What is the probability that both of the boys will ride in the car to the concert?
Korri and her friends are going to a concert in Tyler, Tx. They put slips of paper (6 – yellow, 4 – blue) into a bag and draw these randomly. If you draw a yellow slip of paper, you will ride in a van to the concert. If you draw a blue slip of paper, you will ride in a car to the concert. Korri first draws a blue slip of paper. Not liking that selection, she replaces the paper and quickly draws again. What is the probability that she will draw another blue slip of paper?
